I have been with NowTV for a while but their wifi coverage from the router is awful.
Any suggestions on what to get to help boost it around the house?
Should I explore tri band mesh, dual band or wifi 6 mesh options or replace the actual router which seems tricky to do?

I can't really hardwire to upstairs due to the property I am in. The access to upstairs is awkward and ends up in the bathroom. The phone connection is also in a random location in the living room so makes it hard for the signal to reach potentially hence thought maybe a mesh setup. The actual direct speeds are fine via ethernet so just a wifi problem.

Out the wall, up the outside of the house, in the loft and into an AP. Add PoE injector/switch somewhere and job done. Mesh systems sound amazing on paper but in reality they are very poorly executed and bring their own problems.

@ddoubleep im considering NOW TV BB for when my SKY runs out in a few months, apart from the wireless (most my devices are hardwired), how are they all-round?

I was with SKY BB for many many years and switched NOW TV BB about 4 years ago and been solid. WiFi is poor due to their awful router. I have deadspots around the house but any connection near the router is fine and hardwired is perfectly fine.

hmm..thanks for the input.

Something I might consider then, SKY BB has been OK, but overall the service (with TV) is way too much.

The only thing really on wi-fi is my phone and MBP, so if I go down his route, maybe some access points or something might be in order.

@ddoubleep

for your service, do you use a box to get the "pause TV" feature? if so can you point me on the direction, eg. Amazon, or eBay etc.

Cheers.

I cut the TV and use it for BB and Phoneline only. You can get access to their TV offering via their box or the app via loads of other devices but not sure about the live feature itself.

thanks mate, I suppose with the services running on a monthly contract (TV I mean) it would do no harm to "test the water" with the TV services and if the BB is solid like you seem to rate, then I am very tempted!..

I am on Fab Fibre 36 Mbps https://www.nowtv.com/broadband and have unlimited minutes bolt on for next to nothing so works for me.
What Skybox have you got? I kept mine and still get various free to air bits via the aerial. You don't get the pause feature which Sky still charge for I think.
Fire TV or Chromecast takes care of various household media for when need it above the Sky box.

Found this....

You can pause and rewind the live TV channels for up to 30 minutes with any of the supported devices below:
  • All NOW devices (NOW Smart Stick, NOW Smart Box with 4K & Voice Search, NOW Smart Box with Freeview, black NOW Box)
  • All Roku devices
  • Apple TV HD (4th gen) or 4K
  • BT TV Box (rewind for up to 2 hours).
On all other devices, you can only pause or rewind on demand movies and shows.

Keep in mindYou can’t record whole shows or series on the live TV channels on any device, except via the programme guide on the BT TV Box if you pay for your membership through BT.

how is streaming and gaming at the same time, do you know?

I ask, as im looking to maybe go VF on the broadband, and NOW TV for the tv side of things..can I sufficiently game and watch a source of NOW TV with out much problem?

My line is averaging around 65-75 mbps.

I do not usually stream and game at the same time but do have multiple streams going in the house by various members and it seems fine on the 38MB. I have noticed the 63mb has dropped in price at £23 a month.

I picked up a Sky SR203 router and replaced the NOW TV router with it and it worked straight out of the box. The WiFi speed has improved and where I had dead spots it is quicker so as an interim solution it will work for now.
