Countries are closing their borders for various reasons.
They don't want a large migration of Russians to take over a town and end up like Ukraine 60 years down the line.
I think it is over for the Russians, borders closed to them.

That's true. Invasion by displacement.
1. Displace your own population, leaving borders open
2. Raise problems with displaced population causing a majority of Russian vs local native population
3. Invade country in majority areas declaring a special operation to save population from nazis
4. Displaced population run further across the country to get away from Russian control
5. Continue steps 1 to 4 until you have annexed the country.

I know there's plenty of scope for this mobilisation to backfire (fingers very much crossed!) but when I see all these videos of ill-disciplined drunks, part of me thinks Putin knows exactly what he's doing. Where there are breakthroughs, and land retaken by sheer weight of numbers, these are the lowlife that torture and rape and want their reward for being displaced from their homes and families... many of whom are probably secretly quite pleased to be rid of them.
Thousands like that added to the occupied areas may not help Russian defence in the end, but the civilian population will suffer even more, displacing/killing more Ukrainians and swinging the population balance towards Russian sympathisers. The long game, as ever.
Ukraine has proved to be a formidable opponent, but I think they're in for a brutal few months... or what's left of the command structure of the Russian army will implode under the weight of trying to assimilate conscripts, and be routed.

Has Putin just lost it mentally? Like he does know his army is a joke and the only options are total nuclear annihilation of the planet or defeat? The US and EU won't let him win and take Ukraine. They will keep supplying Ukraine with modern weapons that will continue to **** up Russia's tin pot forces.
If he wants the nuclear annihilation option, he should just get on with it and put us all out of our misery.

There's only a few places they can enter Ukraine and they'll concentrate en masse by virtue of Russia's paranoia surrounding railways.
It's all but assured that they'll be receiving singularly unpleasant gifts upon arrival.

That's assuming he had full control and that if he pressed that button anything would actually happen.
I'm not convinced all around him nor China would be as willing to instigate the obliteration of the entire planet.
Look, Putin isn't going to use Nukes on anyone and even if he did the rest of the world wouldn't let it draw them in and destroy everyone and everything. IF in the extremely mega unlikely scenario that Putin has gone absolutely insane and did it then I would expect USA and maybe others to take out Russian military bases and equipment everywhere without resorting to nukes themselves and dooming us all

Tactical nukes have to be transported usually via specialised truck or train. If the trucks even fire up at this point NATO know all the locations. Once they see them move Putin will get a phone call to say they will be taken out if they move further.
Putns only option will be strategic nukes at which point generals looking at losing everything and having to watch their families burn will pop a cap in his demented head.
Russia must be full of wests spooks at this point.

Imo you either reply with equivalent nuke on a similar-level target or you reply conventionally but with a lot more force on a serious target. That way the world knows Russia is the only one escalating with nuclear but Russia knows it will get a response that will hurt.
