Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Not heard anything from Scottish power about the new rates. Doesn’t effect me yet ad I’m fixed till august but they seem very slow to get their prices out. They are also still taking the full dd and just refunding the £400 back to me over 6 months, seems a weird way to do it but then they have been useless since I signed up.

Im slightly confused by the way Octopus have done this. They've reduced our DD by £67, I assume they then credit the account with this £67 to put it back to where it was prior to the reduction?

With octopus, can confirm my direct debit has changed with the government £400. It's £317.82 now.

Yup, mine is down by £67 as well, guess I need to go manually increase it again since my budgeting was based around the original DD amount (especially since they still haven't announced what they're doing with the tracker tariff). How very tedious.

Install the app, looking at usage and payment management is really simple through it.

Yeah. End of your paragraph 1 is what they have done with me also. They aren't using the new prices for some reason . More what it would have been of government didn't help out.

I've done the calucaltions to get your middle paragraph already. So I know what I should be paying. I haven't factored in that after Mondays payment I'll be £900 in credit though ! Just noticed that while travelling.

Our usage is high. 16000 gas 4000 electricity per year. Working on the electricity. But with being a 1930s home. Other than the project I have ongoing for insulating the garage (under my son's room). Can't see the gas use changing too much. (Saying that the average use period the Mrs was on maternity leave....)
With that annual usage, you should be paying around £210/pcm before taking into account the £67/pcm rebate for six months and your credit.

Your credit allows you to safely drop to around £135/pcm before the £67/pcm rebate. So after the rebate, you should be expecting to pay £68/pcm for six months, rising to £135/pcm afterwards.

I would presume so. Looks like they're kind of just crediting you with £67 a month and so taking it off the DD.

So yeah they're just covering that part of the DD for you.

I don't know what's confusing rather than you paying your full amount and then giving you back £67 they just preadjust it so it just comes from you at £67 less to start with.

process is documented outside of social media - in the forbidden zone -> https://www.gov.uk/government/news/400-energy-bills-discount-to-support-households-this-winter

Details set out today will ensure the scheme is delivered to as many domestic electricity customers as possible over the winter, regardless of which supplier they use or their choice of payment method.

  • Direct Debit customers will receive the Energy Bill discount automatically as a deduction to the monthly Direct Debit amount collected, or as a refund to the customer’s bank account following Direct Debit collection during each month of delivery
  • standard credit customers and payment card customers will see the Energy Bill discount automatically applied as a credit to standard credit customers’ accounts in the first week of each month of EBSS delivery, with the credit appearing as it would if the customer had made a payment
  • smart prepayment meter customers will see the Energy Bill discount credited directly to their smart prepayment meters in the first week of each month of delivery
  • traditional prepayment meter customers will be provided with redeemable EBSS Energy Bill discount vouchers or Special Action Messages (SAMs) from the first week of each month, issued via SMS text, email or post. Customers will need to redeem these at their usual top-up point

That's fine. We've put outs back up to what it was, then with the new cap and some energy use changes I don't think we'll see any difference at all, may even build up a bigger credit.

I think the confusion is that they should say that even though my direct debit will be 67 lower the amount credited to my account each month will be my new direct debit + 67.

I already have it, but it means I need to calculate what my new DD amount should be, then change it in the app, that's at least 37 seconds of time I could instead be wasting posting on OcUK
They manually set mine to prevent the automatic system from going crazy setting £400 DD's so i assume if I override it that problem will come back, instead I am just going to make manual top up payments as needed.

Octopus tweeted last night about the gov payment. There's nothing confusing about it and I don't know why or how people can be confused.

I've just checked my account.

Tweets and blogs dont cut it, for some reason they not doing direct communication. Not sure why companies think social media is an acceptable communication platform.

I am aware of the £400, but even I was initially confused for about half a minute when i seen my lower DD, but then it twigged the amount was the same as the monthly £400 rebate so at that point figured it out. I remember the news stating it would be done via payments to people's banks. and I have seen loads of confused people asking about this all confused.
