Replacement thermal pads for zotac trinity 3090

The card was bought new from a competitor it is under warranty but for some reason zotac said they won't rma it.

thats some BS customer service , what are you doing when its hitting 107c on the gpu and what are the vram temps ? and talk to the competitor

makes no sense to remove cooler and that not fixing it and making the warranty void , they can easily diagnose 107c is not right on the gpu die get help from the competitor

Zotac dont allow the cooler to be removed at all. They used to (may still) use painted screws so when you unscrew them it marks the screw, thats how they know it was taken off.

From experience.

Hi gents. I found some kryonaut, whizzed into the wind and whipped off the cooler. Replaced the thermal paste only. There was a scorch mark on the cooler and the old thermal pads look to be in great shape. Running port royal all seems well even boosting pretty well. Hot spot has reduced to 90.5c and the fans are barely ramping up and drawing full 350w. Taking it as a win right now. Considering a 4080 but not too keen on the pricing. See how this one holds up.

90c hotspot still seems high I get max 75c on die with hotspot at 86c on 3080fe would have thought AIB would be better, I would still have RMA'ed it when its under warranty and the shop would have helped

now if it stops working in the future wont be able to do anything

Edit: Change of mind. I think 90c hotspot might niggle at me. I think I might take the chance of replacing all the pads to see if I could improve it.

I know it was stated earlier in the thread that pad replacement doesn't affect the main GPU core temps. Perhaps the original owner/miner had replaced the pads once and it resulted in the main chip not getting correct contact. However there is no guarantee you are going to get better results after forking out £25 on replacement pads yourself (or that this was truly the issue etc etc).

Edit 2: You've got the card 'proped' up, not bending and sagging with the cooler being bent out of alignment?

I was assuming he bought it new from competitor and was still under warranty and not been opened before

Yeah. I've had it since around 3 weeks after the release of the 30 series. Like I've stated zotac said officially you lose the warranty but unofficially they don't open the cards when they're returned and to do it myself if I felt comfortable. I've swapped out coolers many times just not on something that cost me so much.

I don't mind really was looking at the 40 series anyway although I will add when I swapped back to my 1080 my god what a difference the picture is.

thats very nice of them do it yourself if you feel comfortable but you will lose warranty, the shop you bought it from if explained would have to help the issue is clear to see they dont need to open it
