Any tips for buying used?

The 6000 series cards have relatively small buses which they made up for with the infinity cache, but that didn't really help with mining performance. There were people who got them, but getting your money back was always going to be a challenge. I'd say the Polaris cards (e.g. 470/480/570/580) or 5000 series were more commonly used. Nvidia non-LHR cards are more likely to have mined on.

The card I sold was no-LHR.

The adverts that say they have been mined on are genuine and honest people who probably looked after their GPU.

Adverts that say "never mined on" can't be trusted in my opinion. Especially if they say "opened but never used".

It is maybe legit in couple circumstances

They bought new opened to look at it, then changed mind and its never actually used
Someone looked like wanted to buy sealed item but then asked for proof of it working then messed them about and didn't buy
Bought from the bay or rain forest and things can be sketchy where people do return swaps

I’d check out the B-Grade and clearance lines in the OC/U.K. website, I’ve bought a few B-Grade GPU’s over the years and never had an issue, some come with nothing but an anti static bag, others like my MSI Lightning X came boxed with all accessories even stickers, it cost me £300 having offered it via the link on the forum which was accepted.

B-Grade has a 90 day warranty although I was able to register my old B-Grade 1080ti with Zotac with no problem despite sending them the B-Grade invoice!

Not (yet!) had any issues with B-Grade items and at least the 90 day warranty gives you a little more protection than buying off the bay or some random on Faceache…..

yeah, i hardly buy new components anymore
most of my purchases are off the MM or from b-grade
much better value and most of all, trusted

There are a lot of 3090s going up on the usual auction place per day. Over half a dozen. I know for some that won't sound like a lot, no where near a "flood", but think how quiet the auction place was for cards in general before lock down and the mining craze. And its clear that they are being sold else where in number where this didn't really happen before - the aforementioned Face BookMP.

I can't really believe anyone who uses this, especially the "only opened to check contents", I don't get it, why would you break the seal on a brand new item to check contents? :o
Best case scenario for the buyer they are a thief worsts case it’s been In a miner and cleaned up

Are these not rare ? Iv had a quick scan and can’t see anything in 3070 territory that’s got a decent discount

The prices posted - in my experience - don’t reflect what they will let them go for, my 1080ti iirc was up for £999 - I got it for £300!

You ask here.

Present your offer for the respective item and they come back to you.

See my other reply.
Thanks that’s really helpful I had no idea.

Is there a sort of rule to go by with the offers made ? 600.00 in terms of discount is huge and on the post he’s put you linked it says ridiculous ones are going to get a block, now I’m a bit in experienced with this stuff of late but would assume asking for 300 there would have gotten laughed at and clearly not!

Edit also the OP says for mice and monitors and not gpus, I don’t want to send the wrong email or to the wrong guy an get banned, I get the Impression here if you do something that ****** the staff off at over clockers they will just bin you off an ban you so want to get it right .

Yes quite although in context, this was iirc way over a year ago and before the ludicrous boom in GPU prices, also the 1080ti was very out of date (I think the 30xx series was either just launched or about to) so I think mine was somewhat a special case.

I’m not home currently but I’ll dig out the receipt and give you a date.

I also around the same time bought a B-Grade 1200W PSU which was around £100, retail it was a lot more. Again, I’ll find the receipt and let you know exactly what I paid.

Ultimately, make the offer, if it’s too low they’ll only say no.

I view it as they are returns, often that the manufacturer won’t accept back, so it’s a case of the company will take what it can get for the item otherwise it’s binned, I work in the supply chain (albeit not for OC/U.K.) and it never ceases to amaze me when I see pallets of returns simply going into skips.

I don’t think OC/U.K. use this as a revenue stream as such more a way of reducing what would otherwise be losses to the business, it would be nice to hear a response from the company on this although for commercial sensitivities I can understand they probably prefer not to. :)
