Any tips for buying used?

I can't really believe anyone who uses this, especially the "only opened to check contents", I don't get it, why would you break the seal on a brand new item to check contents? :o

Getting someone else's dodgy return can be an issue. I bought my dad a £250 Lego set for his birthday. I opened it to check the contents as there have been instances where people have bought a set, removed the minifigures, then resealed and returned the set. I've heard of similar nonsense happening with graphics cards and other high-end electronics.

Duh...my mistake I meant the opposite way round. I thought AMD were less good at mining, as I sold my 3060ti for £1100. I don't claim to know much on the subject though.

Hmmm, I'll definitely be staying AMD if go used.

I wouldn't rely on this tbh, I was getting 62mhs on my RX6800 at 120w, which is pretty similar to a 3070

Which is why you have the safety net of the B-Grade warranty , 90 days iirc, plus - as I’ve managed to do myself - you can sometimes still register the item with the manufacturer and get a full factory warranty.

Yes B-Grade can be a lottery at times, but, a far safer one to play than chancing your luck on an item from EBay or Faceache marketplace.

Yup, I've had a few B-Grade items, and most were trouble free:

Big items:

Benq monitor, which was basically brand new, in original factory packaging, no dead pixels or anything, had 22 months of the manufacturer 24 month warranty left (confirmed with Benq).
Asus Laptop - again, basically brand new, confirmed with Asus that it had the 3 year warranty intact (less a couple of months from the original purchase date).

Also had a few odds and ends, PCIe wifi card, case, some cables etc.

The only item I had trouble with out of the box was a motherboard which was missing the m2 screw and had thermal paste all over the socket.
Also had a warranty issue with a Steelseries headset - it broke just after 12 months (common manufacturing fault), but Steelseries weren't interested at all.

In general though, people were mining on NV.

True - is that not just because they were easier to get hold of though? Either way, I wouldn't rely on a 2nd hand card not being mined on, just because it was AMD

Yes but they are a bit off their heads price wise, they not so long ago we’re selling 3080’s used for more than OC/U.K. we’re charging for a brand new one….
Agreed but the prices have come down a lot.

Ebay have something called "buyers protection scheme" whereby if you buy something and it's faulty, you are guaranteed your money back. i've used it. i bought something, turned out it was faulty, the seller didn't want to know, so ebay themselves refunded me and then chased up the seller for the money. the scheme is heavily weighted in the buyers favour.

I've bought and sold endless GPUs on EBAY and never hads a single issue.

I wouldn't buy a used GPU now because of mining, unless it was on MM. But in general if you know what you are doing EBAY is still good for GPU's IMO. Far better than getting reamed at CEX.

The only one I had an issue with was a ZOTAC GTX 1080 which arrived DOA, sent it back and got a refund straight away.
I showed picture evidence of how I had installed the card and detailed images of the card it's self to show it was not tampered with (Warranty void stickers).

I have bought and sold them on Ebay with no issues also.

CEX also sent me out an ASUS STRIX 6GB GTX 780 with a huge dent from the rear backplate into the PCB touching components that never worked from the get go, same story, no image evidence needed, bought it online and sent it to our local with the receipt, cash refund.

Those 2 cards I bought when I had my 2600X system.
