As the title suggests I must have been living under a rock not to spot this on Steam. Played the original to death under MS-DOS back in the day, some of the later levels were hard as hell and I never could beat the final one. Just wondered how it runs on modern hardware and Windows 11, as I’ve been caught before with old games that don’t really run well despite the claims (FSX). Also has the difficulty been tweaked, as I don’t want to buy it and find they remade it harder than it already was. The new Doom caught me with that, couldn’t get past the back to back mid game boss levels, even on easy.

There's also a few assertions in on line reviews that this version noses around your PC and that the soundtrack is missing.

Okay it's only £7.99 and probably £4.00 in the next sale, but I don't want to waste Steam Wallet funds on something not worthwhile.

The updated Quake has a bunch of new, quite good, campaigns, etc. and seems to be a faithful update with some decent enhancements and good compatibility for newer systems.

I've not seen any mentions of spyware?

They are all on pc/xbox game pass for free if you have that

Well I've taken the plunge, only £8.00 after all and I've spent far more on games I've barely touched.

Re spyware, think it was something mentioned in a random thread I browsed on Reddit; probably no worse than any other modern game dialling home...

Let battle commence!

There was some concerns about Quake Champions and telemetry type stuff but I've not seen anything for the Quake update.

It's not bad, though somewhat simplistic compared to the modern day shooter/RPG's like the Mass Effect or Fallout series we have become used to. Even some of the earlier levels hard as nails and while I haven't cheated (yet), did find myself looking at the wiki a couple of times how to find the keys or exit. It's also still quite blocky and chunky despite running at 4K but I guess that's part of the nostalgia!

Loving the Quake RTX mod.
I started replaying the first episode on nightmare skill yesterday on PCem so switched over to current machine to play in RTX before i was too far in.

Some other ID engine 1 & 2 games in RTX would be fantastic. Kingpin, Sin, Solder if fortune and Return to castke wolfenstein to name a few
