Hi everyone,

With the announcement of the 4000 series, I got a slight itch to upgrade my aging but still reliable GTX 1080ti. So far has served me quite well, but recently too many compromises had to be made to get native 4K at 60 fps in the latest AAA titles. The 3000 series perform pretty well, but it is already two years old. Any opinions? AMD is not an option as I use the same card for work, which requires CUDA.

Best regards, JS

The 4080 comes in 2 varients 16gb and 12gb the the 12gb being more like a 4070 , you may need a new psu as well.

You should check out dome reviews.

That might be an issue, as I am currently running Seasonic PRIME 650 Titanium (650W). The CPU currently is Intel 12700K, running at stock clocks.

They also have a new power connector atx 3.0 to regulate the higher power delivery so if your in the market then a new atx 3.0 psu would be the way to go for theese high end cards.

I would be checking out reviews and also taking note of power spikes.

I guess waiting for the reviews at the moment is the best option.

I'd wait for AMD and Intel to launch their cards too, even if they are of no interest to you, just to see what happens to the market. It might be that you see a great deal on a previous gen card like a 3080.

I upgraded my 1080ti to a 3080 FE that I managed to get new this week. I am very happy, about an 80% increase overall and more than good enough for me. I run a 750w PSU and it has been fine for me so far.

Well if you use the same card for work then it is a business expense so just get a 4090. If you require CUDA then your choices are limited.

Wait for reviews before doing anything.

A 3090 might do and after the 4090 reviews come out, the pricing might drop far enough to give you money for other upgrades.

The nice thing about gaming at 4K is that it puts more pressure on the GPU than CPU so your current rig won't suffer nearly as much as you think.

What are your PC specs?

This.

It's no longer a case where you would be mad to got a previous series card when the new one is out. You need to factor in a PSU and also a ATX 3.0 at that.

As mentioned earlier, I am currently running i7 12700K @ stock, 32GB DDR5, 650W PSU (Titanium)

I can pick up an RTX 3080Ti FE right now for around 1100 EUR.
