Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

We're talking about electricity produced from gas. If we were talking about electricity generated from all sources then 28GW is about right.
In the last year we as a country generated 28GW (not GWh there is a difference) of power from gas generation plants.

In contrast 5 May 2022 holds the record for the maximum amount of wind power generation, at 19.9 GW.

In 2020 renewables accounted for more than 43.1% of the UK's total electricity generated, at 312 terawatt hours (TWh). This outstripped fossil fuels over the course of a year, for the first time in the nation’s history.

28GW in a year is 1KW per household in the UK.

Has anybody actually received their £67 yet and if so, how was it paid and how do you make your payments? I've not had the £67 from EDF yet and I pay by direct debit.

Your supplier has several ways to pay it.

1 reducing your direct debit
2 paying it directly into your bank account
And 3 for non direct debit customers is a cheque by post

As alluded to by others, Bulb have credited the account with the £66.
So instead of being £630 in credit (3 months worth of payments), I'm now nearer £700 in credit. The only option is to request a refund of part of the credit as they won't let me reduce my monthly payments at all.

The whole DD thing seems an utter fudge. They should simply credit the account by the subsidy and let the usage over the comings months affect whatever your DD is set too / credit back to your bank account.

The first two options, which are applicable to me, haven't happened yet. Maybe we're all just being a little impatient.

my DD was reduced by £67 for this month, i guess the same for the next few months
as was mine. i will be interested to see what my bill shows however. my DD is now £3.06 but my energy use for September is only £30 .............. in theory my credit on my account should go up just over £30 (ready for winter).

normally octopus take my money on the 1st of the month but nothing has happened yet, perhaps this is why because it is still being finalised?

i agree.... it keeps everything easy to follow, and also makes sure the money goes into energy still
Quite. The cynic is me is this distraction of reduced DD payments, which is not the same as the subsidy actually being applied to household usage. A nice little trick by the energy companies to retain the dough!

possibly but if so that would be quite naive of them....... even if 90% of people just see their DD drop and dont look at usage or account credit, it only takes a few to make a stink which would defintely get out.

i know i will be keeping an eye on my account. I wont bug support at the moment, after all they will legitimately be v busy, but i will give it a few weeks and then if my account isnt credited i will contact them. having a smart meter and exact daily energy usage is a 2 way street.... they can see my exact usage , but so can I

I also know there will be some offering to play me the worlds smallest violin as i am fortunate enough to have such low bills.... but that would be to miss the point. This money is costing us a lot, and will all have to be paid back. it is ultimately going into the pockets of some very wealthy companies... sod that!. i would prefer the money in my account rather than as part of some shareholders windfall profits.

100%. I was baffled when I got my letter from EON.

I used to walk through the trainyard at the top of the line in the Welsh valleys, coal stacked up higher then houses. That doesnt exist anymore, in Jan the welsh government outlawed the mining of Welsh coal despite it being uniquely higher quality then anything we can import & as has been known for decades Uk is failing in its energy production/self-sufficiency. I dont know they ripped up the train lines also but the trains clicking past on tracks past midnight I have not heard for years.

That is starting to be a problem for the preserved railways as Welsh coal is the best for steam locomotives and as the supply is drying up they now have to look for alternatives.

Hmm interesting post today at work.

They have said that originally anyone on a fixed price higher than the EPG would have their prices discounted upto 17p and 4.2p max (or whatever it was) down to the EPG but they might still be above the EPG if their prices were really high when they fixed. Now they are making the decision to switch everyone who was paying more than the EPG onto the EPG tarrif regardless of if it would mean the discount was more than the 17p /4.2p max discount level as trying to discount all the tarrifs accordingly was proving to be a ballache. Apparently all customers who would be paying more than the EPG will get some notification/ communication soon to say they are being moved to the EPG cheaper rate

Request a refund.
I did same with Scottish Power for same reason.

They wouldn't let me put my DD low enough to get the balance down over time.

I was also 600 in credit

Any EDF customer paying more than the government fix will automatically be reduced to the fix even those on fixed term tariffs that were higher than the EPG will be reduced.
