I’m not sure western sources are going to show precise information or the most advanced points of troop movements.

That is true - but OSINT posts, etc. are generally not far off the mark - but they are decidedly conservative compared to Russian social media's reports of how far Ukraine has advanced.

They must be cautious but perhaps less cautious. The Russian sources are puzzling. Are these visible to the Russian population? Not sure if there is an agenda to presenting the failures of the military, as something against Putin perhaps?

Don't know - I'm only seeing it screenshot from the original social media platform.

If I was in the Russian army I would definitely not be happy with how things were going. They will likely look to blame the head honcho for this debacle of a conflict even being started.

Damn... there was a tweet thread earlier by an academic pointing to that river as potentially where Russians might mount a defence, Ukraine has apparently just steamrolled right thorugh tho...

A lot of this is very unconfirmed still, but if the Russians are in full on retreat mode, then even prepared lines of defence may decide it's a good idea to pick up your gear and join the people running away as well.

If no one is really putting up resistance then it becomes a job of how fast can you drive your tanks forward! insane speed of progress today even on the concrete/confirmed stuff.

Personally think it is stuff like with the Kraken units in the east - probing special forces heavily armed doing hit and run attacks panicking the Russians.

Good discussion. And based on the points he puts forward I can see why Putin declined Ukraine's offer to remain neutral and why that wasn't good enough for Putin. He argues that Putin doesn't care about the situation today, so he doesn't care (prior to the war) that Ukraine was not an enemy but simply because Moscow did not control Ukraine meant it could become an enemy tomorrow and that was not good enough for Russia's interests, it wants control over its neighbours, neutrality will never be enough for Moscow.
