Hello,

I had a gtx 1080 powered with seasonic focus gx 650 gold (1 year old) . Never had a crash with it. Today I installed the 6900xt reference model. I format the sdd and installed a clean windows 11 version.

Everything is up to date, I even updated the latest msi x570 meg ace bios.

Everything worked fine. Time spy, firestrike and even the amd radeon software gpu stresstest. But when I hit start in the furmark stresstest (even at 720p) the pc shuts down immediately before the stress test begins. The only way to power up the pc is to clear the cmos. Dit that 2 a 3 times. Any ideas why?

I know 650 watt psu isn't the recommend psu (minimum 850 watt). I don't necessarily think it's the power draw, the total power draw is only 300 to 400 watt system totall.

Cpu 3950x not overclocked or pbo
Gpu 6900 xt reference model
Motherboard : msi x570 meg ace
Ram 16 gb not overclocked
PSU seasonic focus gx 650 gold
Windows 11

This is your problem :- PSU seasonic focus gx 650 gold, you basically don't have enough power to run that system now with the gpu update on a 650w psu.

Get yourself a nice 850w+ PSU and maybe even consider a 1000w one too for some future proofing.

I doubt that PSU can handle the transient spikes especially with the 6900, you'll need a better PSU. Had a friend with a similar problem, even though it was also a seasonic but 850W, it was rather old and couldn't handle the 3080's spikes. He got himself a newer seasonic 850w model and problem solved.

Yup, as Purgatory and Orcvader said, it's highly likely your psu is the problem. I had similar issues with a 550w psu and an rtx3060 last year. Upped the psu to an 850w. Problems disappeared.

Simple and cheapest answer would have been dont use Furmark. It stresses the PC way more than any game would do and some people dont recommend using it.
Ok 650W PSU might not have been ideal although it just depends on what you do and the 1000w is better but still.

Personally Timespy is my benchmark whether it be overclock, undervolt or else.
