I've been out of the hardware game for years but after reading reviews I've specced up a white system (with light blue RGB theme)

Just looking for thoughts really please - budget is £2.5k max and looking to purchase in around 3 months when funds allow

Case = Lian Li lancool iii White
AIO = Lian Li GALAHAD AIO 360mm RGB White
Fans = Lian Li UNI SL140 Addressable RGB White 140mm Fan
CPU = i7 12700K alder lake socket lga 1700
MB = ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming WIFI DDR5 (seems DDR5 variant is in short supply - hopefully available in next few months)
GPU = Asus GeForce RTX 3070 ROG White Strix OC V2
M2 = Seagate Firecuda 530 1TB
PSU = Corsair RMx750 750W White Series
Memory = Corsair Vengeance RGB White 32GB PC5-44800 (5600), CAS 36 DDR5
OS = Windows 11 Home 64bit
=currently £2.4k

current SATA + SSD drives will be transferred to above

Current pc:
i5 760
MSI GTX 970
Dell P2723DE 1440p

In 3 months intel will have released there 13th gen cpu's along with Z 790 motherboards and new gpu's are also afoot from AMD.

Yes there should be some price drops on certain parts and hopefully the Pound improves to help with that as well. What you have missed is that in 3 months when the new options are available then there may be better components. In particular the 3070 could be superceded by a better performing and better value part from the RDNA3 range.

nice so hopefully above system will come down in price?
Not by much, a Raptor Lake Core I7 is £80 more then the older chip you've picked out. Alternatively the Ryzen 7700X is a tad cheaper then even the 12700K on OCUK and comes on a brand new platform that will most likely support another 2 or 3 generation of CPU's whereas the Z790 socket 1700 is EOL after Raptor lake/13th gen.

Wow, you did good with getting that old PC to last so long!

Does it absolutely have to be all-white? You could save a bundle by going for a board with silver 'sinks like the Asus Z690-P Wifi (£235 for DDR4, £250 for DDR5) and (if DDR4) a decent 32GB 3200 or 3600 kit (£100-£150).

The 12700 non-K is available for about £350, too (review).

lol indeed!

yeah my rationale is that it's a lot of money and needs to last a good few years so white will look nice in my wife's decor scheme

There's always something around the corner! :D

I always try and find the 'sweet spot' between price and performance these days. No point IMO in spending £1000s to be in the 95th percentile in performance.

Is the system for gaming only? or for work too?
if it's for gaming I'd downgrade the CPU/MB to maybe B660+i5 12600k and use the money to upgrade the 3070 to 3080.

It will be both - I'm not looking to upgrade properly for another 10 years so I'm trying to find a system with longevity without breaking the bank and also that looks good in white

Looking out for the RTX 3080 FE too (just a bit annoyed it will break the white theme but it seems well priced)

Wow, bit of a blast from the past. I made your sig about as long ago :)

I've also been holding on to my old rig because it still playing all the games I need it to!

Plenty :)
HAHA I totally forgot about that as I have sigs disabled to reduce clutter reading the forum but just seen it now - still a legend sig thanks very much :)

in that case,I wouldn't downgrade the CPU/MB from list.
10 years will be tough though.I think 5-6 years is more realistic with any build.(if your expecting very good performance)

yeh 5-6 years is more realistic. i'm at 5 years now with my pc bought from here, had 0 problems with it and it still does a good job. i've upgraded the gpu, ram and psu but i'm considering going for a new pc now.

If you want it to last that long, I'd definitely wait for all the new stuff to be out, in the next 3 - 6 months.

There's no guarantee you'll get better value/deals, but for that time frame, I'd give myself the best chance.

Excellent advice here guys thanks - I'll hold off until the next gen intel stuff is announced and re-look at the system then
