Imagine walking into any job and dropping the ball so spectacularly in your first few weeks that you cost the organisation massive reputational damage. IF you were lucky enough not to get sacked, it would take months if not years for you to rebuild the trust within the organisation before you got taken seriously again.

She doesn't have that sort of time. The damage is done.

The press aren't going to suddenly let her off the hook because she's said sorry and done a u-turn... in fact, I think they'll go for the jugular and we'll see Liz gone before Halloween.

Good analogy, but there is no way someone can cause that much damage and not get sacked for gross negligence.

Staying with the analogy but if you were the line manager of a subordinate (chancellor) would you be able to argue a case? Who knows.. not a position I'd want to be in.

Either way I do think think she should be held accountable and I'm not sure anyone has much hope of NOT being tarred with the same brush. Realistically unless they win a general election decisively there will always be cries for someone else.

I think he has probably been the Tories best chancellor since Ken Clarke.

would take spreadsheet Phil over Sunak. Sunak looks like a greasy used car salesman who would bend you over for the 10% commission of the lifeshine and scotchguard extra that in fact does nothing to protect the paintwork any better on your car.

The fact is, all she had to do was announce the 2-year fix on energy, which was already done and everyone was worried about, and then shut up until the 31st Oct. By which then she could have thought things through properly. There was no need to rush anything else

The next U turn in the making has been identified as Liz Truss declares pensions will raise in line with inflation. It also further cemements that the conservative party are not the party of the workers if salaries don't raise next year.

So, her special advisor has been suspended pending an investigation by the ethics teams.

One of the nuggets give out was

"Over the weekend, the Sunday Times reported that Ms Truss was of the view that the former Chancellor and Health Secretary Sajid Javid was "****"."
