Hi, a gaming mate has bought a RTX4090, the rest of the PC specs are below. when plugged he gets nothing on the screen at all. on taking a PC to PC shop they said need new PSU so he added a bequiet 1200w PSU , still nothing, shop then said CPU not good enough need new CPU and MOBO.

I havent upgraded for some time, but i would have thought even though this isnt the latest intel setup its still pretty good. and is currently running a RTX3080 with no probs. Could anyone suggest some troubleshooting ideas.

Gigabyte z490 Aorus Elite
i9 10900k
32gb RAM
1200w bequiet PSU.

I will add that to the suggestion box to check, assume there is an option to disable iGPU or change priority

Update the motherboard BIOS to the latest available and make sure UEFI mode is switched on in the bios and CSM is disabled, if windows doesn't boot then windows needs converting to GPT from MBR.

Maybe good idea to use the 3080 and convert windows to GPT first and then update the motherboard bios and enable UEFI and make sure resizable bar is enable too in the BIOS.

Also is he using display port or HDMI and is it a monitor or tv he's using as this can also cause such issues if the TV or monitor may not be detected on POST.

Yes I'd recommend updating bios too.

The cpu and mobo not good enough the shop said.?!

That's nonsense. They obviously are looking at conning you out of money,or theyre idiots. Probably the first one haha.

Why would updating bios help, all worked with a 3080, 4090 no different, i mean never heard of updating the bios for a gpu to work ? or am i missing something, oh the reason im interested is, i will be using my 4090 temporary with my 7 yearold 6700k system, and im hoping i dont get this problem, as there is no updates for my motherboard anyway.

Thought PC shops stopped existing shortly after the 486 era, why would you need one these days other than really poor advice it seems

What's a pc shop?

Still computer shops about, couple in Wakefield, several in Leeds, even one in Sicily where my in laws come from and they have only just got microwave ovens.
Still giving bad advice, over priced computers and trying to get you to spend money when you dont need to.
