Ford Fiesta car set to be discontinued as model scrapped

Feels like the end of an ero if true! Surprised Ford are scrapping it given how poplular it seems to be? I know Ford have the puma as a smal SUV/hatchbak alternative but it seems odd they'll have a line-up with a supermini size car? I wonder if they'll release a small car below the Ford Puma to replace it as I can't see the Ford Ka fulfilling that role given recent versions of it have never sold particularly well.

Shame, my second car was a Fiesta Mk2 1.3 Ghia. I think the problem is they were expensive to buy compared to the competition, though I won't pretend to be an expert. I remember small car shopping for a first driver and they seemed disproportionately expensive to finance compared to competition.

its not popular by a long shot. doesnt even make it into the top 25 in europe these days i'm afraid
Which is interesting because the Pug 208, Clio, Yaris, Corsa, Polo etc. all are. And I swear I see more Fiesta's on the road than any of those. Guess not!

Clearly the Puma was taking the hot spot though. It is a great looking car and the driving position is much more pleasant for ex-Fiesta buyers who have grown old.

Which is odd as they always (when I have bought them, 4 so far) had 0% finance.

Most OEMs can't make money in that segment anymore. When the Semi-conductor shortage was at its worst Ford prioritised Fiesta production in favour of more profitable Puma. A lot of those smaller cars ended up in daily rental which is the worst channel for profitability. Don't be surprised to see Polo, Corsa etc to go the same way unless they are EV versions.

fiesta is too basics and too expensive if you have options or higher trim than competitions. Too many players in the sector. VW group has a range of small practical cars to suit all kinds of budget. I am not surprised it is scrapped.

Harder to fit a rack of batteries under a standard super mini that a crossover. Shame, great little cars no matter the spec and another step towards a bland, overweight lump with zero additional practicality or joy.
What? Puma looks so good the DBX copied it ( :D)

Had one for 12 years now still going strong :/

Only thing that went on it is the wearable parts.

Springs/breaks oo and the boothandle was replaced

yep was the fiat 500e top seller in germany - the little cars not dead.

With Tesla’s temporary headwinds, the Fiat 500e took the top spot in June, at an impressive 2,973 units, far exceeding its previous best (March 2022, 1,991 units).
Tesla still managed a decent 2,144 Model Y deliveries in June, taking the #2 spot, followed by the venerable Volkswagen e-Up! in third.

I thought ford are buying in the vw electric platform, so, late to the party, with a messed up ev roadmap, so I guess fiesta was thrown under the bus.

The BBC article states that it's the 6th highest selling car last month in the UK. Can't be that unpopular.

I'm sure Ford would rather their customers bought a £25k Puma or a £23k EcoSport than a £19k Fiesta.

That's the Ecosport. I'm pretty sure it shares the same platform as the Fiesta.

Focus is being discontinued in 2025 too. Seems strange they'd ditch both of them given they are two of the best selling cars (and frequently recommended) in the UK this millenium. A few years ago they were literally #1 and #2 best sellers.

It's bonkers that a new Fiesta is £19k and a Focus is £26k, likely both not helped by the cost of the mild hybrid tech, before even mentioning inflation etc

Awww how sad. I miss my Fiesta Mk3 Classic with it's 1.1l engine and factory 58hp!

That time the cat ate itself though made going uphill near impossible with a bunch of power going missing

End of an era. Loads of mates had Fiestas, but the only Fiesta I had was a Mk.II XR2 that I rescued from a local scrapyard for a couple of hundred quid and nursed back to health, I still miss that little thing to this day.
