Ford Fiesta car set to be discontinued as model scrapped

First the Mondeo, then the focus now the fiesta. Ford seem to be determined to rid themselves of their most recognisable and best selling brands. All due to the indecent and unwarranted obsession with SUV's and EV's. I wonder how long, like we have with diesel's, t'll be until it is recognised this is another foolish error..

It goes goes back further than those models. Older forumites will remember Ford ditched the much loved Cortina for the hated Sierra in the early 1980s and then replacing the Escort with the Focus.

Vauxhall/GM thought all their Christmases had come early when the Cortina was discontinued as they doubled their share of the U.K. company car market as companies switched over to the Cavalier.

If this doesn't explain why they're not going to bother anymore I don't know what does.

£5k deposit, £280 a month and you don't even get to keep the car at the end. For a Ford Fiesta with 120bhp.

This isn't unique to the Fiesta though I don't think - competitors are equally daft money

Very sad announcement and while it shouldn't come as a surprise, I dol feel slightly surprised they've binned it completely and are doubling down on god awful ugly SUVs and crossovers.

Had a Mk1 Puma and two of the latest two gen Fiestas, and honestly, it's going to be very hard to fill their shoes for what they provided. The amount of exciting or fun brand new cars that are relatively affordable is quickly becoming a distant memory now.

To be honest this is no more of a surprise than when they ditched the Sierra or Escort. Both massively popular cars which were replaced with equally popular cars of a different name.

Or they may just be putting the name on ice for a decade so they can bring it back as an SUV :p

This reminds me of when they discontinued the Escort all those years ago. Weird the Focus will be going soon too as an Escort replacement that has lasted a long time.

Tbf the Fiesta was getting so big the KA entered the old Fiesta segment.

Yea, they did totally forget what market the Fiesta was for, became far to big, nearly focus size, but the mist laughable thing has to be the prices of them, utter total dream land with them and half the spec from previous models.
Also, do ford even have fully electric cars yet?...All im seeing from them is utterly craptastic no future Hybrid stuff.

I'm old enough to also remember this, but at least they were still European/UK models. These days, unfortunately, Ford seem now to only see the America's as the most important market, thus we have to make do with their tastes.
There is also a huge mistake environmentally by going the EV route..

It's the only reason I don't still have a Fiesta. Test drove a new one a few years ago to replace the older model I had and specifically drove home to see if it would fit in the garage. I didn't have much hope it would, and I was right - too long for the available turning circle and too wide; would have fitted in the garage, but I'd have been stuck in the car :). Shame as I always liked the Fiesta, but I like small cars and have no interest in rebuilding my garage just because car manufacturers have to keep making bigger and, not necessarily, better.

I hope they continue Ford's long tradition of naming cars after popular jazz mags. We've had Fiesta and Escort, so with both of them gone now I'm looking forward to the new Ford Razzle or the Ford Penthouse.

its not popular by a long shot. doesnt even make it into the top 25 in europe these days i'm afraid

That's not down to a lack of popularity, it's because Ford paused production due to the ongoing component shortages, focusing (hah!) on models with larger profit margins (Puma etc). Production only restarted recently.

Probably the right time to kill off the Fiesta brand as they move their offering in that segment to an EV only platform. Never been a huge fan, although I've had a couple (MK1 base model and a MK6 Titanium). Currently awaiting delivery of a new ST-Line X on a 3 year lease for my wife.

Here is a tribute to the fiesta by ford on instagram

I had the mk5 fiesta when I gained a load of points during my twenties. Bought it as a stop gap to calm down and clear the points.

It was such a fun car with the yamaha 1.25 lump, great gearbox and darty steering. Proper momentum car.

This makes sense as 2017,18,19 it was a top 4 selling car in Europe then fell off a cliff from 2020 through.

The small car segment is the area where 100% full EV makes the most sense. These are not cars you really buy to do long journeys - they are cars for local journeys which are entirely suited to electric cars. If you're routinely having to do journeys which exceed the range of the car you've bought the wrong type of car.

A fully electric small car from Ford would have been nice, though. Vauxhall managed it, why not Ford?
