So for the past few years I've been using Mayhems X1 Clear. It's been great, and I'm happy to keep using it. But, I'm wondering if there's anything better that people recommend?

Better by what measure? I've been using X1 in various forms for over 10 years and never had a problem.

If it does what you want and comes in the colour you want then why change!

Why change? Curiosity I guess.

Better by what measure? Thermal conductivity, lower temps or maybe longevity of the liquid?

X1 has been great, you'll get no argument from me here but surely things have moved on a bit.

Can't see how you could improve thermal conductivity
Without making it more viscous
That usually leads to clogging microfins
Found that out with mayhems aurora
Though it looked amazing for six months
There's been some over the years made claims of big difference
But turned out to be snake oil lol

If you really want to throw money away you could try that graphene fluid stuff that a few outlets picked up and proved was barely worth it considering the cost, but that's about all I can think of!

At the end of the day, water is a fantastic conductor and carrier of heat, it's the longevity and corrosion prevention that needs additives. As mentioned above, go for the weird high tech stuff or stick with what's worked for you to date. Some people seem to get along with particular watercooling gear be it radiators or fluid.

In what would could things have "moved on"? Physics hasn't changed, so unless you're interested in changing how you cool with fluid (graphene fluids or immersion cooling, for instance) then nothing is ever going to be better than water within the scope of home PC watercooling.

I'd just stick with the X1 you already have, or Mayhems Ultra Pure with Hades and Inhibitor if you want to move away from glycol. Hell, Mayhems was OEM for EK, Corsair and ModMyMods for the longest time.
