Your current GPU buying strategy

Pretty much in the same boat as you - 3060ti is serving me well and I have no desire to drop a grand on an upgrade.
Might be tempted by the mid range AMD offerings but otherwise happy to wait until the next (or later) gen....or something 3080 or above once the second hand value falls more (<£300)
Very much my thinking. Made easier as a 3060Ti isn't terrible at 1440p and there's not a lot out that inspires me to upgrade either.

ive got a 3080, was interested in 40 series till ngreedia came out with dumbo names and pricing so they got written off, if i do get an upgrade this gen it will be with amd, tho i am also just tempted to wait with them both waving about dlss 3 and fsr 3 which doesnt exist or isnt supported by anything really yet, its just the 20 series and rt support all over again

I got a 3080FE and will see how well the 7900XT performs. If it's a sizeable jump then maybe go for it after prices settle. Won't be paying a grand for any of them so will wait it out when they drop to around £650. If not then wait for next gen since the 3080 can handle most games just fine at 1440P.

I managed to snag a 3070ti at MRSP about 12 months ago, which was the most I've ever spent on a GPU. This will serve me until something is released that can get me roughly double the performance for the same price I paid.

Think I'll be waiting a long time :p

i've seen a few forum users basically say the price is too expensive, they'll wait till next gen. but do u honestly think prices will be any better next gen? they are only going 1 way.

Price for performance will improve. Simples.

I think they will have to be at some point. The economy is only just starting to get squeezed. I think there's going to be even less money chasing what are basically luxury items by next gen. The market will decide... ;)

Looking to buy either the 7900XT or XTX, depends on performance difference between the two. If it's 15%~ I'll go with the latter I reckon. Will sell my 6800XT and use that and the money I've been slowly saving to fund it.

People seem to be jumping on the 4090 because of the performance jump but majority will never buy a gpu for over £600 let alone £1500+. After the initial launch week you can easily find 4090 in stock and I expect stock to be plentiful over the coming weeks.
I bet most 3080 owners will not upgrade to the 4080 simply because the price has doubled to over £1200 while performance is not likely to be double. They also will not go for a 4070 or lower because the performance will not have improved over the 3080. It's a predicament which will force Nvidia to lower price quickly imo. AMD is also expensive but they have kept prices the same as last gen but those prices were a remnent of the mining golden age where everything sold out immediately.

Yes, this is me currently, have a 3080 running everything I play at max settings, no RTX games are on my regular playlist and wouldn't pay £1200 for an xx80 replacement

If I was going to buy anything then something more like £900 would be my limit and would have to be a decent uptick from the 3080, so for the first time in over 10 years I'm actually interested in what team red have to offer

I waited for an age before moving from my faithful 980Ti to an RTX3070 and while I have noticed a nice boost in performance in games, like Fallout 4,
I still feel it is lacking in productivity programs, e.g. video editing. I'm pretty sure it's the GPU as in task manager, I'm seeing it hit 100% often,
whereas the CPU is taxed far less. It scrubs through the timeline fine but still drops quite a lot of frames during playback, and transitions often are troublesome to run smoothly.
Additionally, the power spikes (or what I think are power spikes) I saw fairly frequently at the beginning are thankfully now less frequent, though they still occur now and then.
At least they don't happen every day now. I guess Windows and Nvidia driver updates are gradually helping.

When I get the chance, I think something with more VRAM and a little further up the scale might be in order, maybe an RX6800.
I shall be interested to see how the new 7700 & 7800 cards from RDNA3 stack up in terms of power consumption and price/performance, and the price shift on RDNA2 might make an RX6800 even more attractive.

Pro tip, stand your PC in a kiddies sand pit ;)

Overclockers have it covered....

I want to upgrade for similar reasons, also my LG c2 needs hdmi 2.1 haha

I think you are absolutely right. The days of the GPU being a frequent upgrade are over if NVIDIA continue these prices. I was waiting to upgrade to a 4080, but it really looks like it is not going to happen. I have always bought one below the top tier, but they have out-priced me now. Spending £1200 for a 4080 is insanity imo. And certainly not something I am comfortable doing every few years. I do still need a more powerful card than the one I have. I am interested in the 7900xtx because by all accounts it's going to be cheaper than the 4080 and beat the pants off it. Honestly, though, this may be my last upgrade for a very long time.

Was happy with my 3080 as it was decent performance for 4k. Didn't think ever, that Nvidia would give away as much performance as they have in one generation. 4090 = x2 3080's. 100% performance upgrade is unheard of.

Disgusting price but as it was so powerful it'll do 4k for the next few years. Spent £3250 this month on upgrading PC. Will refrain from viewing tech sites to mitigate any more shiny shiny FOMO.

Maybe should have waited for prices to adjust. Had a good year so treated myself.

Personally not budging from my 1070 until I can get a card that does 3440x1440 on cyberpunk at say 80 fps at decent settings.

Bought it on release only to find it runs at 5fps, been waiting 2 years so not exactly a big deal if I wait longer.

The maximum I'm willing to pay is ~600, I simply refuse to pay more. I really don't need the extra FPS when playing COH 1 ;)
