Your current GPU buying strategy

I have a 3070ti. I'm tempted in to buying the new AW3423DW!! I had the intention of replacing it with a 4080 this year but that plan seems to be cancelled now.

3070ti should be ok at that res. especially with dlss, obviously a couple of settings may have to be turned down though in the more demanding titles, depends what fps you're happy with?

I can recommend the qd oled monitor though, the display is always the most important thing imo and being oled, nothing can match the iq, motion clarity you will gain.

It is in most games, but it struggles in some. DLSS is a life saver, it's true. Or, failing that, NIS is really good too.
Yep, the AW3423DW looks really nice. It was not a planned purchase at all, and if NVIDIA hadn't messed up the 4080 I would probably have waited until they brought out a AW3822DW!!! But now I am really not sure what to do. I am so tempted to buy the qd-oled and then wait for a gpu until next year.

Might be worthwhile checking out the freesync version of the aw monitor too, slightly less specs (not enough of a difference and the gsync module isn't really beneficial on oled) but a fair bit cheaper.

I would sit tight on the gpu front, 7900xtx looks good though if you don't mind the 1+k price or maybe Nvidia might drop prices once ampere stock has dried up or the 7900xtx forces their hand....

i used to be really into hardware, but now i really haven't thought about changing gpu in a long time. gaming on final fantasy 14, using a 3070 at 4k, not max settings but it's averaging over 100fps. The new ones just don't represent a good enough value for the performance boost, it would always be nice but for that money? not necessary

I never really understood why G-Sync is not really beneficial with oled?

Variable overdrive isn't needed when oleds pixel response is already instantaneous, from pcmonitorsinfo review:

At this point we’d usually point out the advantages of the G-SYNC module in terms of supporting variable overdrive, re-tuning the acceleration across the refresh rate range to prevent strong overshoot at lower refresh rates. For OLED models aggressive pixel overdrive is not required and overshoot isn’t an issue either way.

There are still some advantages of the gsync module but it's not worth the premium on this particular model of monitor imo.

I bought a 3060ti (upgraded from a 1080gtx) and will likely be my last graphics card purchase unless something really changes with the PC gaming industry.
So strategy is not to buy !

Buy top or 2nd top every year for 12 years until gtx900 series, hesitate, buy gtx980ti on decent offer when gtx1000 comes out and can't justify price...wait for rtx2080, what a joke...wait for rtx3080, yes please, sorry no stock, scalpers...wait for rtx4080, disgraceful price....wait for 7900xtx, probably no stock and scalpers...wonder how I've gone from new card yearly to no new card in 5 years+. Imagine fair few in similar boat

I'm driven by performance, price but also availability sadly those don't often coincide. I splurged out once for 3090 but that was literally desperation as there was literally nothing else avaliable at the time other than overpriced 3080's, scalpers and non existent 6800/6900's I have no intention of splashing out £1700+ for a 4090 impressive though they are. Unfortunately money is an object these days and even employment isn't gauranteed at the moment. I'm quite tempted by an XT/XTX but will wait on benchmarks the chances of finding anything close to RRP though I expect will be slim so will likely hang on for another year and see if things have settled down nvidia's lesser offerings seem like a mickey take price and performance wise and I have little to no interest in RT/dlss all my titles bar one are older and raster only

Sitting with a 6700 and a and a 5700xt in my 2 rigs much want for a 7900xtx though

I have a 3070ti. I'm tempted in to buying the new AW3423DW!! But even that, well, there aren't many HDR games around. I had the intention of replacing my gpu with a 4080 this year but that plan seems to be cancelled now.

Here is a list of one I have played or know of:

God of War
Resident Evil Village
Shadow of a Tomb Raider
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Cyberpunk 2077
Death Stranding
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Spider-Man
Spider-Man Miles Morales
Mortal Kombat 11
Forza Horizon 4
Forza Horizon 5
Flight Simulator

I am sure there are more, plus quite a few games out there really benefit from AutoHDR. I quite like it in a few games I tried.

Just to add to that list of ones I've played with hdr of the top of my head

Horizon zero dawn
Riftbreaker
Gears of war
Mass effect legendary series
Guardians of the galaxy
Metro ee
Rdr 2
Days gone
Doom eternal

Lol. I played Horizon Zero Dawn, Metro EE, Guardians of the Galaxy, Days Gone (without HDR) and have RDR 2 but completely forgot about them. Not sure why I forgot HZD as I enjoyed that quite a bit and completed only a month or two ago and the HDR was fantastic.

Waiting for RX6700XT to get below 400€. It did once but I missed the sale by a hair.
As soon as that happens I'll also change the rest of my PC.

I got 2 options basically:
1) cheap 6700xt and 12700k (I'd like that because I can customize better)
2) wait for sale on an 5800X3D based system, in this case with a 6750XT

Would it not be good idea to wait monitors with dp2.1 to come out in the new year. I'm looking to go ultra wide 1440p and need gpu for that.
