2022 small city car suggestions.

I'm not sure whether you could consider them cheap, however I have driver an electric mini cooper s (either early this year or last year, was a new model) and I have to say it was a lovely little thing to drive!

Was quite a nice place to be inside (and I'm 6'4") with a decent bit of kit, too :)

It's basically an i3 94Ah, but less practical.

Yep, GR Yaris.

Usually assume it’s an old duffer driving with no situational awareness. Normally doing at least 10mph under the speed limit. :D
Why not something more practical, like a Lotus 7 maybe. Did you not read the OP. He's just retired. Sounds like the i10 is quite suitable. :p

What kind of budget are you talking here. A BMW i3 REX would be a lovely idea, but they're very expensive for what they are.

I'd maintain that the best 2 year old small EV is the Zoe 50. Rather dull to look at, but no less interesting than an i10 - and with a decent sized battery under the floor.

Since working from home and barely driving now, I got shot of the 5008 and jumped in a 3 door Up GTi cheap to run, you can boot it all the time and still pull 50mpg and fun on the B roads :)

Pretty much this but in a 3 door instead of 5:

I'm 6 foot, stocky build and there is still masses of room. Decent drive too, longest journey was 300 miles and was more comfortable than the SUV's I've had in the past

If these had a proper screen with CarPlay/Android Auto they’d be about perfect as a run around. As it is, I’d personally go Polo GTi instead.

I was looking at the Polo GTi but got this for ~17k new from the factory, all the extras bar auto climate as a car this small doesn't need it, within 5 weeks as another customer cancelled the order, so I haggled hard. The Polo was a 12 month wait. I took the Up on a bank loan, sold the 5008 paid off loan and made 7k within the month :)

I do miss the google play but to be honest, the phone connects via USB and the phone is big enough for sat nav so not really missing google play, Spotify etc all through Bluetooth, works well. Took me about a week to map to the cut back toys, but the fun of driving it made up for the loss of the screens etc.

I was worried about losing the toys and the space of the 5008 but I am not missing it at all.

Fun car, cut back on toys so it depends on what you need :) Get about 330 miles to a £50 tank of fuel and that's me horsing this thing most the time, best I've had is 350 miles granny shifting all the time but that's no fun.

Why are you not sold on electric? Especially given you already have a charge point.

Good question, we are moving into a house soon with an EV charge point already installed. I will review all these options when we move. We are unlikely to buy a car before then. I still like the idea of a small city car fuelled by petrol. Still believe that there are improvements to be made to EV's and come 2028 ish if i still drive, I may buy one.

However an EV is still an option if a bit pricey. Thanks for all the input. I think my buying a mondeo is remote as I have been there, done that during my company car days.

Can you expand? Literally the only improvement to be made is range, but given you only do 50 miles at most and can charge at home I don't see how any improvements there would change anything.

And price of course, as you've mentioned, but there are plenty of savings to be made and there's more to an EV than just that (ie reducing pollution when driving around your urban environment).

Best car I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few.

Absolute pennies to run (I was fortunate to buy nearly new when they were £13k) but the dirt cheap servicing, 50+ MPG regardless, drives well (better on 16's than 17s'), never had any issues in 40k miles, nothing fell off, no rattes. It even does reasonably well on motorways, given the car size.
Honestly can't say good enough things about it for what cost to buy/run.

I'm loving it, I was an 80's child so always loved my small hot hatches, last 7 years have been in SUV sized cars, its great to get back to a small warm hatch, living in the sticks to, its always fun when I get int he car on the B roads, proper little gokart
