Long story short I bought a pre built gaming PC back in 2012. (Specs below)

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K

MBD: Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3

GPU: Nvidia GTX 550-Ti

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 500GB

HDD: WD Blue 1TB

RAM: 2x4GB

But I'm not sure if it's worth stripping the entire thing down and getting new parts or simply just buying an entrie new machine.

It's got a decent size case so replacing the motherboard wouldn't be an issue.

Ideally I want to stick to a budget of £600, any advice would be appreciated.

Any advice on what's best value for money and performance is appreciated.

Not easy to stay under £600 and build a gaming PC, you could really do with an SSD too, at least for your OS.

Asus Prime H610M-A D4 - Intel H610 DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard - £110.99
Intel Core i3-12100F 3.30GHz (Alder Lake) Socket LGA1700 Processor - Retail - £119.99
Team Group Vulcan Z T-Force 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey - £99.94
Asrock Radeon RX 6600 Dual 8GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £230.00
AMD Radeon™ Raise The Game Bundle - Dead Island 2 & The Callisto Project - £0.00
Super Flower Golden Green HX 650W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black - £64.99

Grand Total: £637.01

An alternative might be to get an i7-3770K (or the Xeon equivalent, if your board supports these CPUs) and RX 6600 (if the motherboard supports UEFI graphics cards), together with a new PSU if yours is very old.

I agree with Tetras.

His suggestions are the lowest tier of current hardware actually worth buying because it performs so well it invalidates previous gen parts.

With Black Friday coming up keep your eyes open for bundles/deals with 12100+B650+DDR4 or on the AMD side 5600+B550+DDR4. If you could get either of those combos for under £300 you would then be able to pair it with a dirt cheap RX 6600 and a new PSU and you are good to go. You may be able to get an AMD 5600x+ B550 +DDR4 bundle on the second hand market , people are always upgrading so keep eyes peeled. Like also mentioned above you could really do with a new M.2 NVME SSD for a boot drive as well but that cannot fit into your budget

In terms of budget, you could look into getting a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, and graphics card for around £600. This would give you a decent setup that could handle most tasks. Alternatively, you could look into getting a pre-built gaming PC for around the same price. This would give you a more powerful setup, but it would also be more expensive.
