GOW Ragnarök thread + Spoilers (please tag them)

I'm really glad it's not open world to be honest, so much of open world is filler content. Which I don't think would suit GoW. I'm also glad that they haven't come up with silly new systems to 'refine' and 'add' into the game, for me GoW 2018 was pretty much perfect for that sort of game, and because this doesn't have a huge variety of new and unproven systems and designs in then it's just pure refinement in my eye. Story and Gameplay over everything, it was never going to look a huge amount different than the last game because it was developed on and mostly for the same console.

I'm loving it so far, but only a few hours in - so will hold off any other judgement until I've completed it - but I also don't pay attention to any reviews or scores, they're all pointless anyway when literally every single thing is subjective to the person playing. So far a top contender of game of the year for me, but the only other contender would have been ER which I can't really play because I am a useless old cretin who can't handle souls type games without an easy mode :D

I've been tempted. I've played the 2018 game on PC and loved it but sadly, I just can't justify buying a PS5 for it. Though I'd love to play this and Horizon. I do wish PlayStation was more open like Microsoft is. Paying £600-700 for a few console exclusives... I just can't.

25 hours in now game just gets better and better.. game has massively improved last 10 hours thanks to the dwarves (brok is my favourite char in the game) but won't say what due to spoilers :) the cutscenes are the best around in any game tbh.. and the characters u meet along the way... Defo gonna be playing newgame + when I finally complete it for the armour sets u get.

Goty for me without a doubt.

I feel the same and have given up after about 8-10 hours. The first game was worth a play for me but not remotely ground breaking in any way.

This one is more of the same but the graphics are no longer holding up. The extremely linear level design and convoluted controls for combat just put me off.

Press L3, hold forward, hold triangle, tap L1 to get a special etc. It became so convoluted to get one of the special weapon moves, that I ended up button mashing L1 for light attack.

Nowhere near as good as the first game and the first game was hardly amazing.

I tried the first one month back, loved the story but I'm no combo player, so I also ended up for the most part using basic attacks. Once I got to the big lake I groaned at what was to come, thought **** this. If I'm honest it felt like a poor man's Uncharted 4 and really dated. I chalk that up to me because so many people love 2018 game.

Not sure what the haters are on about. It's bloody amazing. It didn't need to be a totally new game. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The canoe and lake gameplay put me off in all honesty. Put the game down pretty much at that point.

Some of the best dialogue takes place on that canoe, I end up just sitting perfectly still listening to Mimir tell stories. Got 6 hours played over the weekend and have barely scratched the surface of this, but collecting everything as I go so making sure I take my time and don't miss much.

Exactly this. Great stories, great game!

I’d have to agree. I often just stop to listen to them talk and not once have I been bored during the cutscenes. It all adds to the experience that could easily just be kill this, kill that. I think I’ve done every possible side quest so far, I’d actually like a few more!

Game completed at 38 hours in.
I did a fair bit of the side missions also, got a couple of sections of maps still to open up, and still got a load of side missions.

All in all more than worth the £63 from Argos
I’d say I might get another 10 or 15 hours out of it.
£1 an hour or so for entertainment purposes, can’t really beat that.

Parts of it reminded me of the 2018 game, in fact a lot more parts of it than you first think.
9.2/10.

I'm 9 hours in and have only just gotten to where I control Atreus and go to see Freya I have a feeling I'm still right near the beginning, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Oh wow.

There is so so much more to do after the main story!!
A few surprises thrown in for good measure!
You need to hunt every where to find them.

5.5/10 for me.

Just finished it today after setting it to the lowest difficulty and ignoring side quests after the first 10 ish hours.
As a fan of all GoW games up until the recent ones, I felt I should see the story through.

But sadly this one solidified my thoughts on the last one as this was more of the same, but more bloated and less enjoyable.

In a nutshell, I just found the whole thing boring, Atreus’ personality incredibly grating with his sections dull after the first 5 mins, Odin was crap, the needlessly stretched out quests very tedious and a lot of the ‘feels’ chat forced and just plain meh. The combat wasn’t enjoyable for the most part, though I found the Blades better this time around.

I don’t think I’ll be playing any further releases. :(

Probably won’t be a popular opinion on here based on what I’ve read of the thread, but can’t win ‘em all, I guess! Though the internet being the Internet I’ve found a few threads on Reddit echoing my thoughts.
