My guess, a cruise missile launched from Belarus, aimed at Lviv, intercepted by an S300 while over Poland.

A few weeks back on Russian TV: Why aren't we bombing nato, let's flatten Warsaw and Polish infrastructure

Tomorrow on Russian TV: The bombing of Poland is a British and CIA provocation, we did not launch bombs at or over Poland

Nobody was ever going to trigger article 5 over this who ever fired the missile, starting world war 3 over the accidental destruction of a field in Poland would be utter madness. Fortunately this sort of madness can only be found on one side in the current war (Clue it’s the one with the crackpot dictator who fails to acknowledge reality)
 
I am surprised it is taking so long to establish where they came from. America has satellites over the area and American and NATO spy planes fly everyday in Poland. Biden does not seem to think it was Russian. More likely it was anti-missles from Ukraine sent to knock out the Russian missles that went off course.

Judging by replies, it really does lead me to believe that both sides have lost proportionality. The amount of screeching about needing to now escalate before anyone even knew where the missiles had come from is irrational.

Maybe the vaccine drove people crazy after all. (Lol)

It is still Russia's fault for callously bombing civilian infrastructure and being that close to an international border. Without that this would not have happened.

Would guess a bit of uncertainty is helpful, and helps whisk up a bit more rhetoric. Oh and they might not want to reveal all their satellite capabilities?

But with the stakes at play at least ascertaining who did it is important either to mitigate escalation and to hopefully put controls in place to try and reduce chances of it happening again.

It's also quite possible,that a cruise missile launched from Belarus was intercepted at high altitude by an S300 and the wreckage crashed onto Polish territory.After all quite a few cruise missiles were launched today. It sounds like we aren't really sure what's happened. Ukraine came out immediately and blamed Russia did they not? But it's sounding like it may have been one of their own missiles... (intercepting a Russian one)

Well, #1 is plainly untrue as if Russia hadn't invaded Ukraine there wouldn't be any Russian missiles near the Polish boards to intercept in the first place.
#2 is totally untrue too.
#3 is filler, the rest is a bit more measured. But that the Kremlin's way to "set the record straight" starts of with plain lies is no surprise. If they had started with point 4# onwards their statement would have carried far more weight, but while we decry Western politicians lying, the Russians and especially their spokesmen and foreign ministry have taken lying to the Olympic medal level.

It's become a game for some on social media. They are getting perverse pleasure from all of this.
 
We have to eventually follow the facts even if assumptions are made originally, but that is the main difference between the west and Russia, once the evidence points to it most likely being a Ukrainian air defence counter missile, then that is what the statements say.

Russia are indirectly to blame for their missile reign of terror.
 
Just needs some patience.
Its obviously unclear due to both sides using the same weapons in many cases.

The cause of the explosion is still Russia even if they didn't fire the missile themselves.

Still seems a bit odd to have been two explosions but its quite possible its due to something secondary.
This is the problem with modern news, it breaks quickly before anyone has a chance to filter
