That would be seen as going beyond defending and retaking their sovereign territory.

What Ukraine should have is the equipment to turn any uninvited object in their airspace into flaming scrap.

They should, and to be honest they are getting closer and closer to that point. There is clearly a vast difference in the effectiveness of Russian missiles now compared to at the start of the invasion.

The next step up is to say these are a problem now that simply air defence cannot counter as well as we would like. We have to enable pre-emptive levels of strike from within Ukraine.

A bit like the UK would pound the crap out of anything they could find that looked like potential Vbomb enablement during WW2. Ukraine would need to be able to try to do the same to known launch enabling places of missiles.
(IE storage, manufacture etc, not simply launch sites) That would require a step up in level of capability for them right now.

I'm less concerned about "escalation" and more worried about boosting internal support for Putin.

Ukrain has an advantage in motivation because they are defending their homes. Russia lacks that motivation and that's very helpful.

It may be necessary in the end, but there will be a trade-off.

You have to admit though, there is some disparity of Russia completely wrecking a country at will at that country not being able/allowed to fire back into Russia, due to some mythical escalation that is unlikely to occur.

It's mythical until the point it's not. There's a lot of dead people who thought the person holding the gun wouldn't pull the trigger who never got a chance to learn that lesson.

I don't think we have that technology, even our Type-45 Destroyers could likely be hit, these air defence systems are fantastic but they still work in % chances of destroying the target which is below 100.

THAAD is the best anti-ballistic missile defence system available and it will not stop every ballistic missile, dozens of small fast moving targets are hard to stop. Israel has the best one and it's success rate is below 100, and they've put a lot of work into that. Maybe Iron Dome could work in Kiev but you can't cover very large areas with it.

Ukraine can fire back at Russia any time it wants with its soviet grade hand me downs.

The western support does not want to see escalation of any kind. It could easily give more permissions and weapons for use within Ukraine and that will eventually secure Ukraine again but giving a green light to use western weapons inside Russia is expanding the conflict zone enourmously let alone whatever fit Putin might pitch.

No it's not fair but but so what, Putin is sitting there thinking it's not fair that Ukraine got backup. You can still make a correct decision that isn't fair.

You are talking about a person with their finger on a trigger of a gun that won't just shoot the person they are aiming at but themselves, their family, their friends, in fact everyone they know and millions they don't, plus destroying everything that makes their society. And it isn't just one person, everyone along the line has to also pull their trigger. There is a very good reason why nukes have never been used and its as relevant today as its always been. Putin and his lackeys aren't going to be that keen on killing their families and ending the world where they live a life of ridiculous wealth and privilege.

Yeah I cba arguing with people who are so sure something will never happen that we can just act with 100% certainty, I'm glad NATO Generals are clear on the risks of nuclear war.

The Czech Republic will start training 4000 Ukrainian soldiers with the first training shift taking place this year.
Finland also announced their 10th and largest batch of military aid to Ukraine worth €55.6 million.
