Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

That's a lot of tea! Better add the water bill to all the flushing! :D

Lol. That’s two tea’s each for a family of four. I got one extended family member that has 5 a day at least! I know we have on average 3 each a day.

I bet there are some here that have much more than 3 cups a day :D

My Octopus points came through I managed a 69% reduction and earned 83p. Hardly seems worth it.
purely financially maybe not... but that isn't really why we should be doing it. the pay off is the icing on the cake. the cake is lowering the countries carbon footprint by pushing energy use to cleaner sources and preventing rolling blackouts.

does anyone here have a nest system?
I just got my nest round up for October and the year round up so far
In October I earned 31 nest leafs for having an energy efficient profile on my system (so one every day)

the average for my area is 9 leaves. my yearly total so far is 290 so far and in the top 20% of nest users for energy effiency

I have not got around to programming my lower temp profile yet i am still on my old one.......

The point of my posting however is not to try to show off.....but that looking at that.... some people must use a LOT of power as our house is definitely not cold and I don't think I am stingy with my energy profile (the stingy one is still to come)

No cause I don't have £200 to spend on a thermostat when my heating is off all year round lol.

£200? I think we paid around £90 and we needed a system of one sort of another when we got our new boiler 4 years ago.... so probably only cost £40 or £50 more than a cheaper unit.

of course you are not wrong. if you don't use energy to heat your home you can't save money when your base line is zero (a bit like my current earnings with the octopus points).

for us however I think over the life of the system it will cover ittself. we have a much better heating profile now than we used to.

Wish it didnt need opt-in, I forgot to click the button. It needs more notice in my opinion, I expect a lot miss out due to the very short time period for the notice.

I would ask when is the next one as I am still waiting to take part but of course the answer is we dont know until a day before.

Yeah i think your not going to see what you want
As far as I understand it the grid sends to the opted in energy companies the window as soon as they decide when a "pinch point" is going to happen and for how long
The energy companies then need to send out notice and allow consumers to opt in

If your not opting in your not actually in effect confirming your aware and as such your far more likely to not actually take any action.
Since the point is to trigger action it makes sense to have to sign up, otherwise a high percentage may just be getting payment by luck.
They are still gathering data so being able to specifically understand the impact from action as opposed to from just a window is more useful data, as it gives more direct data on what on demand pricing is likely to be able to achieve.

I didn't save or get anything which is no surprise when I'm only at 70watts ish anyway most the day ha.

Yeah your deffo not the target audience :)

Your the sort who would benefit indirectly not directly.
As (assuming we do) we manage to drive out the crazy high pricing for the very top of the generation curve the total cost to the grid will decline.
Assuming that ends up in average billing for now then everyones unit pricing will reduce in proportion.

I opted in not expecting any actual points as it's worst time of the day for us with our usage, by some miracle we seem to have made 600 odd points for 83p.

rookie numbers, I have had 4 coffees and I have been up 90 minutes. On the 2nd load of washing with the first in the dryer. Can't wait to get my smart meter installed next week and see just how much energy I am using. Family of 5 here btw.
I’m on my 3rd but your on another level :D

I think some people got lucky and their meter could not be read so they were just given the average.
That may make sense.

Out of curiosity, i've just downloaded the smart meter csv file from my admin area, I can see 30 minute readings going through, oddly, the reading spikes at 6PM, maybe I put the cooker on late without realising :D
