The 1080Ti owners predicament.

Nvidia made a power house of a GPU at a time when we were only just moving to PS4 Pro / XBOX One X.
At this time the 1080 Ti severely outclassed any games being released as they were console limited.
Moving on to late November 2020 and we see next generation consoles hit the market.
3 years have almost passed and 1080 Ti owners still keep bragging about how great the card is. Praise Jensen!.

In many internet discussions the 1080 Ti owners hailed their GPU as value king and nothing is able to touch it whilst not understanding the real reason why.

Moving on we see games now taking more advantage of RT effects, certain games coming along making the 1080 Ti look very old, many ignored it.
The 2060 being a very mid range Turing GPU and we all knew how much people loathed Turing because it was apparently not a big enough leap in performance whilst Nvidia were tackling a totally different beast other than pure rasterization.

The issues with people who own such cards, their emotions fuel them and blind them, subjectivity is why we buy things, many cannot raise their heads out of this and take a objective and distant view on the subject.

The only reason the 1080 |Ti was so great was due to software allowing it to be, conforming to old ways, the 1080 Ti is amazing all because it came around in a time where there was nothing to push it, overpowered for all software coming out, until games started to push forwards into next generation, the 1080 Ti is now an ever falling behind beast that can still hang in some titles, but this situation above is now much more common.

I will await the old "Nvidia planned obsolescence".

Well, That's just as true today with the 4090.

Apart from in house Nvidia tech demos we will never see what the card is truly capable of doing in the right hands with an actual PC exclusive game, because its simply financially unviable to make such a game now.

Right now you're just basically paying the best part of £2k (unless you have a specific multiple monitor setup for simulation related gaming) to run console ports at higher resolutions.

..thanks, but no thanks.

FC 6 is not very representative of most games with regards to the 1080ti
Usually it's trading blows with the 5700xt rather than 5600xt

Edit: the more I look at these test results the more certain I am that they are rubbish. CPU limited at 110fps for Nvidia. 2080ti out performing the 3090...

There are others too I just can't recall them off the top of my head, we cannot say it is Vram releated, the 1080 Ti has 11GB of it.

Cherry picked graphs are cherry picked?

A slightly older article but seems fine, and far more comparable 5700XT / 2070 Super than your graphs suggest:

So the common link is AMD sponsored titles?
Could be, but why would Nvidia's later architectures rampantly destroy the 1080 Ti if that was the reason?
Turing and Ampere don't conform to the same limitations as the 10 series.

As pointed out, the 1080 Ti flies in old games, in the last 2 years it has fallen a lot.

Isn't this the usual case of nVidia not optimising drivers for for the latest games on the older architectures?
Could be, but Pascal is a different architecture and was not forward looking in terms of the new tech and ways that are available to newer architectures.

Never seen any proof of Nvidia slowing down old cards with new drivers. Quite the opposite actually.
Pascal is probably deficient some capabilities which are used extensively in RE 7. couldn't say what without loads of research.

Well Halo Infinite is sponsored by neither and the 1080 Ti is comparable to a 1660 Super in that game relative to the 2060 and 2060 S.

No longer using the 1080 Ti myself but sold to my brother, and he's still happy with the performance. FSR works on these GPUs as well and definitely keeps it going on modern GPU demanding games.

I am glad FSR works on all vendors, this is where the 1080 Ti will gain ground.

The 1080ti at launch was IMHO overpriced, something people seem to forget. Having said that it is a bargain compared to what has come afterwards.

As to Ray Tracing for some people like me it is not a big thing as I enjoy gameplay more than minor effects.

Same boat on RT, nice to have, absolutely not needed though.
