Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Saving 1kWh a week, giving 52kWh in a year equates to £17.68 saving. A year. Is it really worth it?
52kWh would you let you use a 3kW heater for 17 hours continuously - that could be three days worth of heating, as the thermostat cuts in and out.

Do you have any idea how many families in this country would love to have three days of heating right now?

Another month where we’ll end up with a net profit on our second home, considering what the government is taking elsewhere I’ll take the win.

Got home last night and wasn’t expecting it to have gone down to 12C. Just sat under a blanket with a jumper on, was lovely and warm. Heating warmed it back up this morning.

Does the cooling job for my gaming systems I guess. I’ll just live in my gaming room this winter I think :p

You're also missing the point that the reducing demand scheme wasn't to reward people for less usage. It was to test whether demand could be lowered enough to prevent blackouts in the event we have a shortage of gas etc.

Unfortunately if they'd just asked people to reduce demand out of kindness then most people wouldn't have bothered. So having a financial incentive no matter how small would have encouraged a lot of people to take part.
 
I play games in the evening on my PC with an overclocked 5900X and 3080, pulls 600w+ during gaming. So far, that's kept the living room warm enough that we haven't turned heating on yet. Win!

The only time of year I like all the heat produced. In my first 2 bedroom home it used to heat up the whole upstairs.

Thanks that worked! only got 224 points and usage was down only 38% but we hardly ever use any power during that period anyway since we are normally doing very little energy wise but last week during the saving session I was on holiday and at home!

We used 200W compared with 322W we would normally use. My other half was working on her Pc for the first half of the session so most of the power was used then. I was sat in the dark downstairs lol
 
I wish there was something like this but targeted at those of us with home batteries.

Give me some credits for charging my battery a few hours before peak, and then charge me extra for using it during the session, that will incentivise people like me to charge the battery and keep usage local for the session.

At this time of year solar is not enough to keep the battery going all day, so it's likely to run out late afternoon/early evening right as these sessions hit.

Yes but my battery capacity isn't unlimited, I can store 8.2KWH and my daily usage is about 16KWH, so with 4 hours covered under the Go rates, I need about 13KWH or so for the rest of the day.

If solar generation is absolutely 0, then I'll be taking 5KWH~ from the grid at peak rates this winter.

I've run some basic maths and I think a 2nd battery wouldn't make fiscal sense unless prices come down. There are a few reasons, but broadly:

1. Price per KWH on the battery is high.
2. On a good day, you won't need to add much charge to the batteries, so a lot of the time, the 2nd battery would be redundant.
3. Limited charge speed at 2.6KW on Givenergy with a single inverter, which means I can only charge 10.4KWH in the Go window (no I can't get onto Go Faster, also it's been removed from new switches as far as I can tell).
4. Even if I could charge both batteries fully, the additional capacity would only come into play on days when solar generation wasn't high enough. Current stats suggest that only recently has generation dropped low enough to really give me a shortfall.

I'd be looking at Nov - Feb as the only months where I really need the 2nd battery, for the rest of the year that extra expense isn't going to be adding much beyond peace of mind that I have more capacity to play with.

I’ve adjusted my battery to stop discharging from 5-7pm, so I can benefit from this Octopus scheme. Like yours - my battery runs out this time of year before the end of the day, so it’s not costing any more.
Tomorrow, I’ll adjust it back, to use battery at this time, so I’m using no grid power from 5:30 to 6:30

The 16th Nov is a perfect example
High grid use from 5 to 6pm, with battery stopped for that period. [I’m usually cooking my sons dinner at about 5:30].
