Hi folks,

Got an itch to upgrade the pc and need some friendly advice.

Current rig:

Board: X570 Auors Elite
CPU: Ryzen 7 3700
GPU: Gigabyte Rx vega 56 8GB
Memory: 16gb ram
Running a couple of M2 drives and a SSD for storage.
Running 2 x monitors - iiyama 27inch red eagle and a 32 inch Lg ultrawisde screen.

Used mainly for gaming.

Is it worth just upgrading the processor\gpu on the board that I have or best to buy new board, cpu and gpu?

Would like a bigger monitor 34'' and above to maximise the new rig potential.

Budget around 2.5k

Kind regards
Steve

No sense to yet change CPU, at least to another platform.
3D stacked extra cache Zen3 model coming in some months could be option, if you want to improve performance on that side.

Anyway for gaming that graphics card is far bigger bottleneck.
Prices are just totally nuts.
So you're going to have to pay lot for higher end cards.

In monitors would consider 4K as high end.

3D cached 5800X3D is an obvious and good upgrade path which will give you a 25-30% uplift in per core performance. The GPU will be harder, but I'd suggest a 6800 XT as they're widely available.

Unless your graphically struggling just stick with what you have.
A gpu upgrade would be the only thing worth doing atm but as said above the prices are insane.

You could probably get £400 back for the vega 56 if you did upgrade thats how mad the market is. :(

Thanks for the responses all.

Will follow the good advice on here and hold out until things settle down. I dont ' Need ' to upgrade at the moment but got that thought in my head now that I would like to play game on a larger screen :)

Need to have some self control.....

Thanks guys/gals

It was mentioned on the RTX 3050 thread, that the RTX 3060 will be avilable tomorrow at £400 on OCUK, at 9am, in limited quantities. That is 25% faster your Vega, and like dfour said, if you sell your vega for £400, you would break even.

Well I have waited and just ordered the Asrock 6900 xt which is on offer at £649

Will the cpu be a bottle neck?

Also to decide on what monitor to go for is the next conundrum.

Just noticed that the 6900 recommends a 850W psu. Currently running a Gigabyte 700W psu, guessing a new Psu is needed?

Might aswell update the processor and psu whist at it! Any recommendation for decent PSU's these days?

Thanks for your help btw, much appreciated.

If I were you, I'd just leave both and see how it goes. The power draw on the 6900 XT isn't that high, so if your PSU can handle the spikes, it should be fine.

With the new AMD gpus out on the 13th of december its definatly worth waiting to see what shakes out.

Holy thread revival batman
!

Just ordered the 3D cached 5800X3D ( thanks for the recommendation ).

Any recommendations for best memory for the X570 Auros Elite board? Currently running 2 x 8gb. Guessing running 2 sticks is best so going for 2 - 16gb sticks would be ideal?

Cheers
Steve

yes 2*16 is best for no issues but 4*8 can give incresed performance I saw in reviews for memory on amd systems.

3600 mhz with the tighteste timings you can afford to buy although I think the X3D models are less sensitive t ram timings (Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong).

Cheap with rgb

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £82.99 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Performance with no rgb.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £139.99 (includes delivery: £0.00)
