Hi all

I would like to build a mid range new PC in UK, mainly for gaming (aoe2, rpgs, fps etc. but not demanding ultra high graphic performance / resolution), sometimes youtube and netflix as daily usage. And recently just bought a new monitor for the PC (Dell S2522HG 24.5" FHD Gaming Monitor - 240Hz, IPS, NVIDIA G-SYNC, AMD FreeSync).

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,232.11 (includes delivery: £12.30)

Just came with the above list after doing some quick research and would like to ask for advise / potential changes to my list? Meanwhile, if there is any non-RGB CPU coolers recommended as well? And would it be better to change to AMD CPU / RX6700 for display card at this price range? I would like keep the list at around £1200-£1300 in total.

Many thanks for everyone's help.

The main benefit of AM5 would be the potential longevity of the platform (for future CPU upgrades), but if you don't plan to upgrade for 4-5 years then I wouldn't worry about it.

Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 Gaming OC 10GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £329.99
AMD Radeon™ Raise The Game Bundle - Dead Island 2 & The Callisto Project - £0.00

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Six Core 5.30GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail - £259.99
Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus WIFI (Socket AM5) DDR5 ATX Motherboard - £242.99
TeamGroup Vulcan EXPO 32GB (2X16GB) DDR5 PC5-44800C40 5600MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (FLABD532G5600HC40BDC01) - £158.99

WD Blue SN570 1TB SSD NVME M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 Solid State Drive (WDS100T3B0C) - £64.99
Lian Li Lancool 205M Mesh Micro-ATX PC Case Black - £69.95
Seasonic Core Gold GC-650 650W 80+ Gold Power Supply - £59.99

Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 240 AIO CPU Cooler - 240mm - £56.99

GRAND TOTAL £1,256.17

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. Do you mean by using AM5 instead of AM4 as it has a much better upgrade potential in the future, without changing on motherboard? And may I double check if the motherboard listed is a regular size one? And I should change my PC case as well if I follow?

May I also ask if it would worth if I upgrade to graphic card to RX 6700 XT? As my monitor is just a 24" 1080p one, would that be not worth to do so?

Will come with correct mounting for LGA 1700

£500 for 3060ti seems expensive when there are 6700xt for £400 and the 6700 for £330.
Thanks for that, I might consider 6700 / 6700xt instead due to the limited budget, seems the performance would not show much difference compared to 3060 ti. And checked on some news that the RX new series graphic card would be release soon, and thus RX6700 / 6700 xt may got the chances to be lower the price? Is that true?

Whoops, my bad. You're right, the motherboard is incompatible with the case.

AM5 versus both AM4 and LGA1700.

For 1080p, no, I wouldn't bother. It depends what price you're paying though, I think the RX 6700 non-XT is really at the value-ceiling when it is £330. For example: OCUK have a 3060 12GB for £339 and you can get the FE 3060 Ti for £369 (when in stock).

Yes the 7900xt/xtx are going to be released on the 15th Dec. The 6700/6700xt are unlikely to shift much in price until middle of next year when the mid range AMD cards are released but they are very competitive in performance and cheaper than 3060ti.

The B650 Asus TUF listed above is full sized ATX so you would need a case capable of fitting it so the case you originally linked would not be suitable. They do do a micro atx TUF B650 but out of stock.

Thanks again, may I know what is FE 3060 Ti? Is that a certain brand or sth? Seems the cheapest one I could find on OCUK for 3060 Ti is around £420...
And if compared RX 6700 vs 3060, which one you would prefer?

One more thing, do you have any suggestion for a non-liquid / fan type CPU cooler as well? Kinda first time to set up a new PC on my own and worried if there would be any leak issue when install those liquid one... And I guess the Arctic one suggested by Haz123 would not be capable to AM5 socket as well since it is designed for intel CPU?

FE: It is what nvidia call them.

RX 6700 v 3060: I think it depends how you feel about one or the other brand. 3060 has better ray tracing and DLSS support is probably still superior to AMD's FSR, but the RX 6700 will be faster in all other circumstances except the odd I-hate-AMD game (the RX 6600 and 3060 have more similar raster than the 6700 and 3060). A video review and comparison of the 6700.

Personally, I'd rather have the Sapphire RX 6700 non-XT than the Gainward Ghost 3060 12GB (which is what OCUK are selling at the same price), because I find Sapphire cards pretty solid and I don't care about the 3060's features. I've only had one Gainward card and that was about 20 years ago :o

Cooler: maybe the (review) thermalright peerless assassin se, or (review) deepcool ak620 (but they're pretty big).
