MSI Radeon 6950 XT Gaming X trio's now going for £829......what CPU / Mobo / Ram would you pair that with to create a great value build to last a few years.
Not worth that much. Asrock 6900XT. 10% slower, and 20% cheaper.

I ended up going with the 6900xt in the end. The forum members Black Friday deal was too good of an offer to say no to. It also means that I have plan B sorted which I am very happy about.MSI Radeon 6950 XT Gaming X trio's now going for £829......what CPU / Mobo / Ram would you pair that with to create a great value build to last a few years.

If rumours are true, reading articles online, it seems like the 7900xtx is running behind schedule about 1-2 weeks. I know it's only a rumour, but ideally I would like to be able to get into gaming before the new year if possible? I've waited this long.
As for CPU, RAM and Mobo.. I think I'm going to go with the following: Intel i7-13700k, 32GB DDR5 (6400??) (2 X 16GB), for the Mobo I'm still undecided on the Z690 or Z790 chipset for future proofing.

I guess "future proof" was a bad choice of words on my part. I was just thinking about not having to upgrade for a while..think very carefully as mentioned above intel tends to change socket types every 2 generations so i would asume after z790 you'll need a new board for the next gen cpu.
at the end of the day its your money, but from a future proof look intel is not the way to go.
Maybe you just have small forearmsThe card arrived today.. Jesus! It's massive. It's like the lenght of my forearm..
I can't wait to get the rest of the components and get building.![]()

I'm sorry to hear that bud.Hello all, I missed this deal and I'm wondering if there's an ETA for the 6900xt? Also, I'm wondering what the best AMD cpu to pair with this would be? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong on this one, but a z690 will likely need a bios update to support the i7-13700k, and you will need a 12th gen cpu to do that.I ended up going with the 6900xt in the end. If you are on 1440P or below the 6900 XT is all you will generally need.
Some motherboards don't need a CPU in them to do a BIOS flash.Someone correct me if i'm wrong on this one, but a z690 will likely need a bios update to support the i7-13700k, and you will need a 12th gen cpu to do that.
The z790 mobo's will support the 13700k out of the box. (Hope im wrong on this)
Which the 6900 XT does RTX 3070 level RT generally.Unless you enjoy RT
I've been thinking about what you said. What AMD processor would you go with and what chipset and board?a 13700k will be a solid choice no doubt, it just means when you want a bit more horse power down the road the max cpu you can use will be the 13900k/kf, it dosnet really leave much of a upgrade path down the line, if INTEL did what AMD did with the am4 socket support for 10 years, there wouldn't be a issue, i would say intel all the way, but they didint which makes it a hard choice to recommend long term.
Dont get me wrong the 13th gen will serve you well enough, soild few years i'd say if not more

i'm sold. i think it's a better choice like you say.all depends om your budget and use case, if your just sticking to gaming a 7700x or 7900x if you do render work and a bit of gaming, either will do the trick and regard to a motherboard i'd probaly go b650 in all honesty, wont really break the bank as long as you shop smart, if you dont plan to overclock then there are some good deals to be had, in regard to ram this is a tricky one tbh, if you wanna keep it nice and simple look for kits in the 5600mhz region, it'll have to be ddr5 as the new am5 socket isnt backwards compatible with ddr4.
but in the long run you'll have a socket type that will be supported for a much longer time than intel, the only thing you'd need to do for a new cpu on amd side of things is a bios update, i'm sure amd said they'd support am5 until 2024/2025 if not longer (fingers crossed), my personal preference to mainboard choice is asus, they are great, bit expensive but you get great features and bios updates are a doddle, but end of the day it's up to you.
just as an example

Ah... Biscuits.a 7900x and a asus tuf will e a very fine choice though a x670e hasnt really got many more fatures than the b650 variant, only diffrence is pci-e gen 5 support and at the moment gen 5 ssd's and gpu's arnt out and over gen 4 stuff there wont be much diffrence tbh, checked your link and its around £100 more than the b650, i have the 7950x and its a monster cpu will handle everything you could think to throw at it, just be sure to buy a great aircooler or a 360mm aio minimum, i wont lie default behavior makes the chip run around 80-90 degrees under heavy load but its designed to do that so dont worry, i'm on a custom loop and tweaked my chip with lower voltage and 5.4ghz (for now) all core clock, temps are amazingly low so a win win![]()
Ah... Biscuits.
I submitted my order in the wee small hours of the morning. I knew I should have waited to hear back from you. I'm just very impulsive sometimes I guess.
But nevermind, it's all good.I'm sure it's going to be great!
I really appreciate your help and advice! Thank you.
Oh, It's got WiFi onboard as well, so that's handy.
That's good to hear. Thank you for your offer to help. I appreciate that.its all good, you certinally wont need to upgrade any hardware for a good while, just keep on top of driver updates, as time goes new ones release that further improve performance, chipset mainly, same goes for gpu drivers too. but yeah see how you go and if you need help with setting up anything post here and we'll see what we can do![]()
