An increasing one too. Past few weeks, I have seen cars driving with no headlights at 5:30pm.

Obviously drivers aren’t looking at their dashboard.

Back in the day the cluster wasn't illuminated unless your lights aren't on, these days it's like Christmas every day lights on/off.

I do see this a lot, unsure how people don't notice, It does seem to coincide with the school run now it's only just gone dark mind yo. I have been caught out once after an MOT and my auto lights were turned off but I'd driven about a meter in the car park which was well lit.

Isn't this where the "flash them on the way past and make hand signals like flashing lights" manoeuvre comes into play?

honestly if you flash most people would be thankful. I know iv thought my lights were on auto only to find out that iv somehow accidently pressed the switch to manual

Loads around here doing the same and driving around town with just their DRL's on and they have no rear lights on at all. It is a case of they have zero clue what their car does aand there are no police around to educate them.

I've only seen one person so far this year and I'm out driving quite a bit in the evening/night.

What I'm noticing more is the number of people who just flat out don't bother dipping their headlights - seems to be on a significant increase.

That's part of the problem, as most modern cars have a light-up dash 24x7. Previously it'd only light up if you turned the lights on.

My mums Fiesta was nicked and the thief made the same mistake I often made in that car, and forgot to turn the headlights on (because the dash was lit up). That's how he got caught.

On my car, the mileage display doesn't fully light up when headlights aren't on.

Then there's those who don't switch on their headlights when its foggy. Doesn't improve your vision but helps others to see you.

This is exactly the issue, modern dashboards are illuminated regardless whether the lights are on nor off, older school drivers associate an illuminated dashboard with the headlights being on, the fact they can’t see the road ahead seems not to be enough of a clue that this isn’t the case…..

I've almost been caught out, my previous car had auto headlights and had that for over 4 years, it absolutely makes you made me lazy and complacent.

My latest car for past 5 weeks is manual but when you switch on the ignition, the daytime driving lights illuminate and are fairly bright so i've incorrectly thought a few times my headlights were on and driven away. Luckily all 3 times were at my workplace car park and i've realised before leaving the gate each time.

Most modern cars have an automatic light sensor and an option to let the car decide when it's dark enough. Works well on my car anyway.

Eaxctly. I didn't know they were optional :)

Daylight runners, auto headlights and auto dip/main.

I have flashed one person in the last week so there is a manual flash option at least!

Very true! Just an odd bunch without auto lights and permanently lit dash that do catch people out.

The worst, by far, is the slightly modified car with sidelights and fogs on. OMG just no.
Pretty sure someone with no lights is worse than someone with sidelights and fog light’s pointing at the ground.

I think the main reason is drls, they’re on the front and light up a teeny bit and leave a symbol on the dash but rears are never on. I see this often around here and flashing etc does nothing. These people are literally oblivious.
