Do you turn off your outside tap or taps in winter ?

I will do yes, we have an outside bog in an outhouse. Im going to turn it off and lag all the pipes when my free pipe lagging from Severn Trent arrives.

Yes - just in time - had to change isolator valve under sink -PITA but at least I can turn them off and drain water from pipe. (got two )

I do and I have. I don't think it's especially vulnerable but I don't ever use it in the winter so why not.

Yes. I drain it first then stick a insulated tap box thingy on it and just as well with the temps we have seen up here. Next door wasn't so lucky though. I got a knock on the door to find a drenched neighbour in panic mode. She explained to me that she has water spraying everywhere from her outside tap and can't turn it off. It turns out that some gash **** plumbed it directly into the cold feed to the kitchen sink and didn't put a stop ****/isolator valve on it. I had to turn off the main stop **** and plumbed it properly for her as well as fixing the outside pipe and insulating it. There are some dodgy tradesmen around here!!

Why do they need to be covered?
Someone at work had to completey gut their kitchen after the outside tap froze and burst the pipe. Insurance job with asbestos under the floor. Months of hassle for the sake of turning off or covering a tap.
