The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

Yes. The point being made here is the hypocrisy.

I am quite happy with Elon banning anyone he wants. It is his website. He can do with it as he pleases.

If he does that though, then it is clear that he is a massive hypocrite and the reasons he told everyone for why he bought Twitter were just lies.
Did they break the terms of service? Did he personally ban them or was it automated?

You're making the assumption he's actively trawling through twitter posts and banning accounts himself, does he have to personally police all of twitters users?

He made a highball offer. Twitter called his bluff and accepted it. Musk tried to wriggle out of the offer and legal proceedings were started. The tech bubble has deflated a lot during all this time and here we are, with Musk being forced to buy a company he arguably didn’t even want in the first place for a price that’s stupidly high.
It wasn't even just an offer, it went as far as him signing a binding legal contract before he seemed to either realise what his lawyers were telling him before they were replaced, or he came down from whatever drugs he was taking.

He, in his infinite and unquestionable genius went with a contract that was pretty much airtight and waived all the normal, basic checks you'd make before making a serious offer on even something as relatively low value as a local corner shop.
I suspect most people do more checks than he did before buying a second hand car or mobile phone.

there is/was some suggest that the amount offered was at least partly a joke about drugs, like his tweet that got him in trouble with the FEC in regards to IIRC tesla stocks.

Much like we-know-what-we-voted-for, he undoubtedly knew what he signed, he was playing 9D chess that the rest of us can't see.

And people just today and yesterday were defending elon, saying stuff like "do you think elon goes and bans account individually, he has better things to do"

Elon then goes and creates a whole new policy just because he didn't like the content of a twitter account.

what a sad man.

fair enough, be a man and admit, i don't like it when someone tracks my publically available flight information, don't pretend you're keeping free speech and information up, and then banning it any way 3 weeks later.

It's unbelievably sad.

We can genuinely say he paid $44B for a $10B social media company just to ban the guy tracking his flights on Twitter... who has now moved to other platforms where he can still continue to track his flights... using public data...

Elon once offered him 5k to stop tracking him, guy wanted 50k so Elon ignored him.

Clearly a business mastermind at work.

No more Tweeting about being at a concert, football match or comedy show then I guess.

Or enabling Twitter's own location information to your tweet and including someone else in the tweet or even posting a photo which includes location identification info? :D

Elon Musk has renewed his noble commitment to free speech by *checks notes* banning the account of a guy who tracked his plane, after promising not to ban it.

A Twitter account that tracked flights of Elon Musk's private jet has been suspended from the platform - despite the billionaire owner speaking of his "commitment to free speech".

"Well it appears @ElonJet is suspended," creator Jack Sweeney tweeted from his personal @JxckSweeney account.
Mr Sweeney attracted attention with his Twitter account that tracks the movements of the Tesla CEO's plane and even rejected Mr Musk's offer of $7,300 (A$10,000) to shut down @ElonJet, which had hundreds of thousands of followers.

Mr Musk had gone public saying he would not touch the account after buying Twitter in a $44 billion (A$64 billion) deal as part of his commitment to free speech on the platform.

On 6 November, Mr Musk tweeted: "My commitment to free speech extends even to not banning the account following my plane, even though that is a direct personal safety risk."

He has also turned off replies in the thread where he attempts to justify his decision.

What makes you Sankari has some trans hate thing going on? I don't recognise it

He thinks I hate trans people because I refuse to deny the reality of biological sex.

If you all weren't so biased against him you'd realise that maliciously sharing the location of people isn't ok, I don't agree with the solution and I think the rule will need tweaking but clearly it isn't a nice thing to do setting up a bot to effectively track someone's location. Quite obviously no one would like that.

Shame he clearly linked his free speech agenda to his willingness to not ban the flight guy.

The more likely answer is he's incredibly butthurt about being booed into a raisin by dave chappelles audience the other day and felt like banning a kid, editing the rules to justify it and ignoring his past promises to make himself feel better.

No one is arguing that it's something that should be freely available.

A know you've said that nuance is hard for you before, but the point is, Elon is full of rubbish when he says "I won't even ban x person that's how much I want free speech, and then weeks later, bans him, and even his own personal account"

No one cares whether Elon's flights are tracked or not. Fine get rid of it, but don't depend that the reason is for anything other than own selfish reasons, and you've trampled on so called free speech, that you were so annoyed was being trampled on at Twitter that you over paid for it to get free speech back.
