COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Yes I was intrigued as to why the Covid thread was at the top.

You guys just love flogging a dead horse dont you.

Please excuse me - I will leave you to your paranoia.

You do realise the numbers are going up quite a lot in our hospitals or have you buried your head in the sand?

Got proof of this?
My nephew would love to know because he's locked down in Shenzhen.
I live in China. Rules have been completely changed regarding covid over the last couple of weeks. Health code is now basically irrelevant, no mandatory testing anywhere. Lockdowns could still happen, but it's quite unlikely going forward.
It's swept through Chengdu the last week. Went from not knowing anyone who‘d had covid, to only knowing a few who HAVEN'T had it (yet).

When did your nephew go in to lockdown? Did he just travel to the country?

He's been there for at least 5 years, he married a Chinese girl and works in a school teaching English.
About 3 weeks ago he posted that they had all been sent home into lockdown again and he was really pee'd off so perhaps it is now lifted.
They keep going in and out of it.

Covid has not been a problem for my family for almost half a year now I am now battling with strep a around my children. My eldest 3 have all had it and required antibiotics, which I have been barely able to get. Had to travel to 16 different pharmacies (3 hours of searching) to get the first two child prescriptions, and the third child I had to get the prescription changed to something else, not even 111 could help me.

Now one of the twins (he is 3) has it as well and I got to go through all that again just get in order to get the medication required, it's seriously worrying that you can't get your kids the meds required at the moment, no wonder some have died or people leave it too late. I'm lucky I have private health for the family otherwise I wouldn't of even got a doctors appointment for any of them!

I spoke to a colleague in Shenzhen yesterday and he said the restrictions had been lifted, but he's worried because they think that there will be a wave coming from Beijing over the next few weeks, and with Chinese New Year coming up he's trying to avoid getting it.

Over a billion people live in China, I'm assuming they will get hit hard over the next few months. I don't think their vaccination rate is great is it?

City-wide lockdowns no longer allowed. Perhaps their apartment compund is, but caring about single confirmed cases is a bit funny, as the new rules seem set-up to basically guarantee it will sweep through the population.

Smart choice is getting it ASAP and being fully recovered by Christmas/New Year/Spring Festival. :D

Not within the elderly at least, and crappy vaccines to boot. I think the estimate was they could expect a million deaths if they just let it run loose.

Yeah be careful with that. What's the health care like in China if you do end up being one of the unlucky ones who end up in ICU?

Better before everyone else gets it and they need to go back to field hospitals at a guess.

First case in my household - my brother was feeling a bit ropey yesterday, been really bad with it overnight but seems to be improving now - tested strongly positive this morning. He is fully up to date with vaccinations as well.

Someone at his work had it a few days ago - now going around and sounds like most are having it quite bad. Dunno if a new variant - we've not really had anyone that sick with COVID amongst my acquaintances so far.

Sounds like it's alright, but haven't needed to use it. I'm already on the tail-end of this Covid infection. Aside from being pretty sore in my legs/back, and the congestion. It was ok.
I'm actually more worried about Flu than Covid, more-so after experiencing Covid.

Can you get a flu vacc over there?

Never looked into it. I guess I'd just need to go to the right hospital and pay the money... I don't have any medical conditions that make me a risk, and I'm not that old. Don't think I need it.
Still, the only time I've had flu before I thought it hit way harder than whatever this strain of Covid is.

Andrew Bridgen's latest monologue is going to get the debate racing again no doubt. Not sure if any of his points are legitimate but it's already divided options between a few of my social groups.
