Wifi on premium Z790 boards, why?

Why do all the premium boards have wifi on them? Are the modules so cheap it doesn't really make a difference to board cost? It's just something I don't care for.

I always try to get wifi mobo`s, i get nothing but trouble with aftermarket wifi dongles and units but the wifi on mobos work flawlessly for me

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing the last two months when I was digging through all suitable options for a new build.

In some cases, it looks like it was an easy addition to "make them stand out" with the latest WiFi 6(E). Then everyone jumped on board and put it on EVERYTHING (not just the Preium, but the mid boards and even the low boards as well). And in all honesty, I have zero use for it as I hardline everything. But there are little to no options, especially on the higher end motherboards that do not come with WiFi these days it appears, pushing up the price for their addition.

And that's what I think the reason for their inclusion is; keeping prices high.

This was why I took a while to decide on grabbing the Asus Proart X670E, yeah it had WiFi6E, etc. And since that was "standard" I had to look at other inclusions to justify the price. Thankfully this Proart had 10gb ethernet included, as well as Thunderbolt/USB4. Which if purchased separately, made sense in terms of cost. Especially if I was going to get a stonking 4+ slot GPU down the line, making the extra PCIe slots redundant for expansion cards.

Personally, I don't mind their inclusion, but would definitely have liked some options (choices) without them as well.

I'll definitely be getting WiFi on my next mobo. Due to old house wiring my powerline adapters are throttled a lot so I got a pci WiFi card and the speeds are loads better and just as stable

Why wouldn't a high end motherboard have Wi-Fi ?

You would expect all features available.
Yeah I’m with Micky.

I’m sure that if the majority of people spent a lot of money on a high end board that they would expect onboard Wi-Fi.

I’m not saying that onboard Wi-Fi is good but most people would expect it.

I should really subscribe to my own threads so I can see replies lol.

I agree with some of the comments, the wifi modules seem to include bluetooth 5.3 which I would be interested in for perihperals so I guess there's no choice really.
On high end boards, I completely agree. Have the options, all of them, but on the cheaper boards maybe let us poor folk save a bit :D Though after looking at it more the module cost is probably quite cheap (£10 to £20?), which is impressive considering it is the latest standard.

I've been making a comparison spreadsheet of all the motherboards available for the Z790, I get the impression the design process is more about profit than use cases. Damn, I would love a pure custom motherboard where we can chooose the chipset etc based on our needs, maybe in the future eh?

I'd like a board with

1 PCIE 5 x16 slot
2 DDR5 Dimm slots
2 M2 slots
1 cpu socket
1 10Gb lan
4 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports
2 TB Ports
1 DP or HDMI 2.2 port
Generally expected internal IO connections

ITX boards seem like they are part way there but then the price is usually quite high too.
