I currently have a Ryzen 1700, 32gb 3000mhz DDR4 and a matx B350 motherboard (I have a matx case), most of which I intend to repurpose, as I'm looking to upgrade.
I want something that will last a good while and don't see myself upgrading any time soon. I'm not too bothered about the absolute cutting edge, but want the best bang for buck.
I'm still rocking an RX480 I got as a stop gap many moons ago, just before GPU prices went mad, and it's just about hanging on at 1080p. I intend to upgrade this in due course, though I will be keeping my 1080p 144hz monitor.
If I was keeping the motherboard, I'd just get a 5800x or similar, but as I'm not, it seems a new platform is sensible.
I'm leaning towards the 13600k with a B650 motherboard and reusing my ram.
A 7600x, B660M and 5600mhz DDR5 is about 160 more expensive, but id be able to resell my ram for £80ish? to offset some of the cost.
Note - motherboard cost for AM5 is based on the B650M Riptide. Others are £50 or so more expensive.
The 13600k seems the better performer and it's cheaper. Is this the best option? From what I've read, DDR4 Vs DDR5 only makes a minor performance difference.
Upgradeability seems the biggest argument for AM5, but by the time I come to upgrade I imagine it will all be old hat. I won't be upgrading each CPU generation, which I imagine is where this advantage is most beneficial.
Any thoughts or advice?
