It's done me proud for many years, but the BMW is starting to become a money pit now.. Probably looking to getting another car next year :(

First it couldn't be tracked so the track rods(?) not sure of the name needed to be cut out as they were seized, then the battery failed, radiator needed changing.... And now I've just parked outside I smell burning, and smoke is coming out of the engine bay! ( Water looks very low, even though I checked but a week ago! )

Haven't been able to save any money and it sucks :(

I am in the same boat mate, my passat the last year has cost me a lot on general maintenance, then it’s MOT was the most expensive MOT I have had. Now finding more bits the need doing. Haven’t been able save. So now looking at changing cars in the new year. Have you actually looked at the price of cars at the moment?

Mate, BMWs are getting ridiculous compared to what they were. I spent 17k on an f11 and reckon I spent another 17k keeping it on the road. Not like they used to be, so much to go wrong these days...

Bloody awful!!

I want a Honda Civic Type R FN2! Always loved the look of them and the sound. Getting a bit miffed with Turbo's and Diesels! But even then I don't have £5000 grand, in fact my bank balance is pretty bad :(

OMG that sounds awful, my absolute nightmare fuel. I have an F36 (4 series Gran Coupe) since July last year and, thankfully, it's been flawless other than routine maintenance. I have brake pads coming up but already have the replacements in the boot to give to local trusted mechanic to swap over and Tyres needed early next year. I've had the oil and brake fluid changed too but other than that the only issues are the TPMS going crazy in the very cold weather and the screenwash needing refilled. I've found ebay is very good for the genuine BMW stuff, the small bottle of concentrate, enough for a full refill is around £3!

Looks like I am moving away from diesel as all the dirty diesel cars I would like to replace my car with are all much more than I really want to spend. To get something newer and less miles. If go Petrol, all the cars I like and in my price range are thirsty motors. Then taking into consideration the 30p difference in the fuels at the moment I might have to petrol and fill it up twice a month.

The FN2 is a nice car, prefer the ep3 but they are getting old now.

Lmao I don't think you realise what an actual money pit is :p

Who are you talking to? Not sure what is funny?

I used to have an MR2 Turbo and spent many thousands on that, that was a money pit too!

Different people have different spending situations, a rich person wouldn't class the amount I spend as a money pit, while someone who doesn't have a lot, would do

The mark 2 MR2 was a great car, until you have to replace the pipe/hose at the front of the engine. Right pain to replace, i remember helping my mate with his . I owned a late mk1 and that was not too bad to run. Compare to the turbo.
Forgot to ask yesterday which bmw is it?

I think mrk is commenting more on the actual issues rather than the money spent, as there are many worse problems that could occur, but I think you've identified it soon enough to avoid falling in.

I still miss the MR2 Turbo, but back in the day I sold it for £1200 and now it's worth around £8,000 or more!!

320 TD Sports Compact 2004 ( Remapped to around 200bph etc )

I think you missed the point of his message… it was literally sarcastic and a joke because he probably dumped £20k on his seeing as he needed a full engine rebuild etc.

Yup this is exactly what I was on about, not the amount but the actual issue itself and the car itself being a money pit!

Also yes, nee engine, most of the undercarriage is basically replaced over the 8yrs, it got to a point where it didn't make sense to sell because the next guy would be benefiting from the replacements and not me lol so it's basically family now

Have you tried aftermarket warranty?. I had warranty direct and they repaired almost everything that went wrong with mine.
