COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Still testing positive, so cancelled my NYE party attendance :/ it’s faint but still detectable. Annoying but hey.. better safe than sorry. I alao have the alcohol under the stairs so that will keep for next year :/

China did get zero Covid, as did NZ, and others. They stopped having zero covid because they were reinfected from other countries that failed to deal responsibly with the outbreak. The result has been millions of deaths, huge economic and social costs, and a massive future increase in the burden of disease.

You need to be a special kind of idiot not to realise that dealing with it properly in 2020 and getting zero covid globally wouldn't have been a better choice.

You’d have to a special kind of idiot to believe any claims by China.

Any proof re NZ?

Zero covid is effectively impossible.

Day 4 of covid, at least I think it is as I've slept so much in bouts I have no sense of time lapsed. My symptoms have changed too, coming out the other end now which is surprising considering I've not eaten much in as many days. The toilet bowl resembled n111ck's post history in thread but at least the bowl was flushable. He/she/it/them/**** will probably want source/proof of that too.

If Sunak wants source/proof of China syndrome that will be too late ..pbs documentary (okish xmas viewing) on the flue epidemic phrophesyses 2nd wave - just when you thought it was safe...

Sounds like impact of very low testosterone- get well soon

Day 5 of Covid. Actually managed to sleep quite well last night, still felt pretty bad this morning, a sore throat and cough being the worst of it now. Although now it's much later in the day it feels like I'm almost back to normal. Expect it to be completely gone in the next day or two.

Thank god it's almost over as it was pretty horrid.

After both feeling rougher in recent days, feintest of positive lines for my better half this afternoon, having been unable to do a proper throat swab as her throat was so sore. Negative nose swab for me this morning, having woken up late feeling like death warmed up, but I began feeling rough ~24 hours after her. Yay.

A number of people saying they had a sore throat as part of their symptoms but oddly that wasn't one of mine. I do have a cough and plenty of snot but my throat is fine.

When I did the test a few days ago it was like someone insta-marked it with a Sharpie it was that positive.

I am sure we can trust our government to implement something like this :D

If there was a new VOC I could understand, as long as they ensured all countries did the same of course. Didn't we learn that cordination and co-operation were key? Otherwise isn't this just pointless?

To be fair third word countries were having horrific levels of infection and high death rates i.e. Brazil, India, South Africa and some significant strains originated or at least were first detected in India (delta) and SA (omicron) so if the whole world had gone for zero covid it might have worked but with the way the world is currently that was never going to happen. Thats not to say significant mistakes weren't made here/the west in general though.

I had the sore throat along with the other classic symptoms, although nobody in the family lost the sense of taste or smell luckily. Biggest lingering thing for me is fatigue and chest pain, but my lungs were a bit knackered anyway pre covid.
