Asus x670e Crosshair Hero is very slow to start

I finally upgraded my motherboard and everything is set up and runs fine in Windows 11. However, when I first turn on the PC the display says no signal for over 30 seconds until the Asus ROG splash screen (bios) appears. Past this point windows 11 boots at a normal speed.

I can only recall such a slow post since before sandybridge. Is this normal or do I need to do something?

Have you installed your motherboard drivers?

Any codes or light indicators on mobo

Also try the onboard hdmi and see if that starts any faster? Don't forget to select it in your bios

Thanks for replying. I should have mentioned, I am using the latest 0805 bios.

I have installed the motherboard drivers, they came on a USB stick with the motherboard. I timed how long it takes to get to the bios screen with the graphics card connected to the display and it was 37 seconds from when I pressed the power button on the case. With the onboard HDMI it took 35 seconds.

As for start up codes, it cycles through a number of codes while I’m waiting to get into the bios but I recorded it (some codes were so fast I couldn’t read them) and this is what it says:

15 - for quite a while.

A9 settles at this on the bios menu.

I should add. When I first set up the system, before installing the OS I got stuck at code 42 which means unstable memory. I’ve not been stuck at code 42 since but it does appear during the boot sequence. I tried booting with just one ram module at a time and it behaves the exact same way, so I don’t think I have faulty ram.
The ram I bought was Kingston KF560C36BBEK2-32 which is said to be expo compatible.

It might be running ram training every time (I've had this problem before). I think I managed to resolve it by reading off the ram timings in cpu-z and then hard coding them in to the bios.

Thanks. I gave that a go and it’s still doing the same.

Long shot. Can you drop the speed of the ram using one stick in all slots? (Lowest hz)

I just tested that but it’s still dong the same thing. I found something on a different forum which said to enable Context Restore which stops training on boot but this didn’t help and resulted in a few failed boots. Could the problem be something other than ram?

Corrupt Bios? try flashing again. Or try a previous release if possible.
remove nvme hd/M2 and see if that quickens boot into bios
check power connections
disconnect case I/O cables
check windows hardware list for possible missing drivers or unknown hardware. (super long shot)
reduce cpu cores

hope this helps.

I would like to offer an alternative opinion. It sounds like the dreaded Asus bug whihc make motherboards slow to boot up. They all do it. They are all slower at booting up than any other manufacturer. Asus has been aware of it for years and it still gone unfixed

I did have a similar long boot time when I was first using this board but as you already tried I set Context Restore to on and that fixed it. I'm away at the moment so can't check the time it takes to get to the bios screen or how long the QCodes are shown during the boot process but I'll try to remember this when I get back. As you say, after the bios screen is done the loading into windows is pretty short. Although I was upgrading from a 4770K this time so everything is so much faster. :)

As a side note I've had four asus boards since the X48 chipset so I can't compare with how quickly other manufacturer's boards boot.

Had the same with mine since new and through all the BIOS updates. Really slow to get to the BIOS screen... But Its my gaming rig so I just turn it on and grab a drink whilst its doing its thing....

Interested in the resolution to this as I’m interested in this board and don’t want to get hit by this.
I wasn’t able to resolve the issue. It takes about 37 seconds to get to the Asus logo screen, then it’s fast after that. I’ve looked around other forums and have read other brand have similar issues. I think a bios update could improve things but Asus haven’t updated this board since November which is disappointing.

I updated to bios version 0922 and the post time increased to 1 minute and 13 seconds. That’s almost double from the 37 seconds of the previous bios version. It looks like my hope for a bios update resolving the issue is now diminished!

I must be really lucky, my Hero boots just fine, no extended boot times at all. This is with a 7600x and 32GB fury 6000 c36. Maybe I just got lucky?!

I think it’s that too but enabling context restore makes no difference. My system is stable after the post so I can’t say there is a fault.
Did you fix the problem? I have the same issue with asus x670e gaming wifi and 7900x3d, around 40 sec before asus logo comes out... When I turn the context restore from auto to enable I get fast boot around 10 sec but I get blue screen on windows login.....
