How do you guys deal with moving on?
Tommorow I say goodbye to my 05 lexus is200 upgrading to another lexus an is300h, shes serverd me well for 16 years but has started to show signs of age with new bits being needed every year and ill be saving loads on tax (£350 a year) and fuel (18mpg vs 40) by changing cars so time has come to part ways

Ill never forget the day I picked her up gleaming and polished a black so deep I could fall into it, shes ben with me through marriage, a divorce, a 2nd marriage, the birth of my daughter, 2 dogs and many more amazing and memorable days

Tommorow is going to be emotional

I've enjoyed cars i've had but i've never really felt any kind of emotional bond with them, they're just machines at the end of the day. I have fond memories of what the cars enabled me to do, for example go to the Nurburgring with friends etc but i always remember the good times rather than the car itself, once its outlived it's usefulness to me i'm more than happy to punt it on and get something else more suitable.

I've always kinda regretted selling my Smart Roadster Brabus years ago. Yeah the gearbox was dog**** and it leaked like a sieve, but it had character and was an absolute blast to drive.

Z4 3.0i I had was a much better car, but not as memorable!

I thought I was going to keep my MGTF forever (first car, absolutely loved it)… then it threw a con rod out of the engine at 70mph on the A23. Despite a new engine I started shopping for a new car soon after that!

It's just "stuff", don't sweat about inanimate objects.
I had a Volvo V70 T5 for 16 years and put 120K on it. Lots of family holidays fully loaded with a full boot, bikes on the back and a full top box. Was a great car that was enjoyed by all the family for all those years but the time came to to sell it on, so that was that. It's just "stuff".

Easier said than done especially if it is something not easily replaced due to rareness, etc. though sometimes you have a very different perspective after moving something on and realise you were living with awkward sides of it for no real good reason, etc. and it was more easily replaced than you thought and so on.

Only vehicle I think I'll be that bothered about is my pickup as it just ticks all the boxes for me, at least in better days. The right mixture of modern electronics and automatic features with older traditional tried and tested features, most of the controls laid out in a way which is logical to me, perfect ride height, engine/transmission which was just in tune with my driving and the right amount of performance without being too bad for fuel economy, nice seats and a decent sound system. None of the more modern replacements tick those boxes for me - especially with most phasing out the 3L V6s now in favour of 4 pots. (I just find driving a 4 pot so soulless).

It does snap into two pieces tho

Never had any other feelings than relief when selling a car as I've always upgraded so that balances it out, also never had a car longer than 6 years so not that attached.

One car I regret selling though is the Skyline, would be worth a decent amount now

I've not actually found any instances of the Outlaw model snapping in half - though my chassis is of the VSK variety which are supposedly affected. Mine seems OK though I definitely need to do a proper corrosion treatment on it this year rather than just wash it down and apply ACF50. Used to be able to do a galvanised chassis swap for 3 grand but dunno if that is still an option.

I don't know whether some of you remember that absolute **** box 106 diesel I had when working at Powerstation but in 2021 when I bought the tesla, I drove that fully taxed and MOT'd car that had never let me down since 2005 when I bought it with a blown headgasket... into the scrap yard and got £150 for it.
I would be lying if I said I didn't actually tear up as I walked out of the yard.. :o:(
awkward!!
