Pet Food Prices

Has anyone else noticed the huge increase in pet food prices?

The brand I normally buy (just a popular pouch food) has had the meat in it reduced by 10%, the pouch size reduced by 15% and the price has gone up 37% and the signs are it is still increasing and will reach 50% in the very near future.

I am now spending around £70 a month on cat food for three cats and that's heading towards £90. God help dog owners. I can't help but think this will mean a lot of animals going hungry.
i get my dog food here www.millieswolfheart.co.uk 14.5kg £65 .. lasts them 3 weeks or 3.5 .. they also get 300grms of raw meat each .. then the sow's ears and pork rolls for treats .. i'd say for 2 dogs i spend £150 a month on them .. thats half of what we spend on food .. but there your dog's so why not ?

Stop wasting your money on crap cat food get something like this our two love it.

There are a few brands on there that are high quality. Animonda Carny is good also.

Then there is something like Applaws Dry food.

I noticed this yesterday. I get either gourmet perle or sheba food for my cats and it was around £14-15 for a box of 40 pouches. Went to the shops yesterday and it’s almost £17 now.

Have to keep looking on Amazon etc for deals as I’ve had some good ones in the past.

That has a lot of 1 star reviews? One of my cats prefers whiskas and she's at least 20 years old so it can't be that crap.

Yes, amazon do. Although not interesting to you they have a good deal on Whiskas Meaty at the moment. £12 for 40x100g pouches. I just bought four boxes. I still have 240 pouches from the last deal they did, lol. I keep buying in bulk when I see a deal. Alas it has to include products they will actually like, much as though I try to buy them cheap muck!

I have a new kitten. She has been raised on Whiskas from two months. She's ten months now and many times the size, and an absolute picture of health. It's true to say that Whiskas is not ideal, but it's still a darn sight better than a "wild diet" and my lot love it.

Have noticed the Sheba we get has gone up a bit but nothing like cat litter. We used to pay £7 for 30 litres of wood pellets and are now paying £12 for the same amount.

Don't mind paying a bit more for food as they enjoy it and it keeps them alive but paying that much for them just to ****, really annoys me.

Yes, that is a lot.

My children prefer chocolate and crisp to salad and vegetables. Go figure. Lol

You only need read the ingredients to see the difference. The 1 star reviews are mostly prior trying to swap from something like whiskas to it and giving up.
Our vet recommended it to us ages ago as it has around 98% meat, the Animonda smells and looks like corned beef.

This isn't just pet food is it? Human food is also skyrocketing, especially over the last few months.

I've noticed a few of the things I buy regularly have increased by the same sort of percentages over the last few months.

Cheese spread €1.89 is now €2.99
Paté was €0.69 is now €1.29
Orange juice was €1.49 now €2.19
Twix was €1.09 now €1.39
6 Bread rolls was €0.99 now €1.79

Yes, what gets me is that the "government sources" say it's 16%. Like hell. Most things I know about have gone up closer to 100%. Prices now are literally insane. I have this strange thing that my mum and dad used to make, cornedbeef hash! It was a cheap meal served to us kids with a ton of tomato sauce! A single can of corned beef is £3.50 now, the ketchup is £3.40 and £1.60 for a very small bag of potatoes. That's £8.50 for one "cheap" kids meal.

The thing that annoys me the most is the way they discontinue a product and launch a direct substitute with significantly less in the packet for more money. Countless manufacturers have done this. Every time I go online to Tesco I have to search for "new" products becuase all the old ones have been discontinued.

You have a child that eats a while tin of corned beef. We make that and it feeds at least 2 adults and 2 children.

Of course if you buy some high end corned beef (is that a thing) of course it's £3.50. Aldi it's still around £2. 50p a person.

Just thought I'd check how much our kibble has gone up by. I buy bulk bags that last months. Last bag was in August for £36.99 and now they want £45.99 for it. That's an increase of nearly 25%.

And yet in the papers its a scandal they report, pet food has gone up 10%. Where? I would love to buy some that cheap!

I doubt anyone would live to 100 on a diet of chocolate and crisps.

I tend to buy the Purina ONE Adult Dry Cat Food Chicken and Wholegrains 3KG bags for around £16-18 depending on the shop. Gets me about 5 weeks or so usually before having to buy more.
She also has access to a water fountain with fresh water throughout the day that she loves.

Also experimented with Scrumbles All Natural Dry Cat Food along with Iams for Vitality Adult Cat Food but she always seems to prefer the Purina.

We bounce between a few different brands of wet food as they randomly turn their noses up at food they've been eating for a while.

Dry food they typically have sanabelle from zooplus, who do some fantastic wet foods with some having meat content of like 90%+

I do see that zooplus recently ditched a brand because of price hikes, then followed that up with a 10% off voucher for most other brands lol

Our cat needs urinary food, last 4x10 pouch box was £30 (previously maybe £24/25)

One of those a day with half a tin of the same pate that has shot up from 30 odd quid for 24 tins to over £45 makes it pretty pricey now.

Everybody is cashing in.
