Morning all,

The last time I did this 5 years ago with a different budget, it turned out to be incredibly helpful and sent me looking at cars I hadn't even considered.

So here we go again. Now I've finally gotten the double(ish) garage I've wanted, it's time to put something in there.

2 car household and this car will remain a main car, doing a whole 24 mile commute twice a week.

Criteria wise I'm pretty flexible.
< 4.8m long to fit into the garage without making it awkward
2/4 seats is no issue

I've currently looked at the:
V8 Vantage, Late 4.3/Early 4.7
F Type R AWD
TTRS

Recommendations wanted, always interested in the opinion of you guys on here.

Cheers

I’m biased but that only car in this category that interests me is the 718-generation Boxster and Cayman, with a strong preference for the latter.

This is lovely looking little Caymen. I am surprised at how little 40k actually gets you these days. There seem to be a lot of pdk Porsches in the price range but even me as an auto fan couldn't do that!

Only if it has the proper engine and not the McDonalds rude boy 4 pot turbo.

TTRS has no appeal other than a 5cyl engine.

A special Aston would do nicely and your garage deserves such a fine steed :D

That 4 cylinder engine is nowhere near as bad as people claim.

Sports car in the UK with an army of speed cameras and unsuitable roads, no thanks.

I would buy a used one of these for £23500 and pocket the £16500 change.

It is plenty fast and powerful enough anyway 0-62 in 5.6 seconds.

A VW Arteon when the OP is looking at some fun cars.

Lul wat!

that was my point though, how are you going to have fun with a V8 on UK roads then in 2023 with speed cameras all over the place ?

I dont have the funds to own one but i doubt they are fun to drive around any town or city in the UK and not fun on a motorway either.

Thanks for the input

Unfortunately deep down I feel the same as others. The having been in a 2.0T Boxter and a 2.5T Caymen it showed the 718 gen are immensely capable cars. But I agreed with some others, I feel they've lost something somehow by dropping the 6 cylinder in all but their GTS and above models.

The Elise might be one that starts to hold value now:

Hadn't even considered a lotus. Something to look at!

I've been the same, inflation seems to have hit the car market like everything else. Also pushed by the fact newer models of the same car are asking for a much higher asking price, helping the used market hold value.

Have to say the performance of the car isn't necessarily what I'm looking for I suppose, more of the 'Something Special' bit. So without getting into the sports car unsuitability piece (Which to be fair, I wasn't overly clear on the sports car bit in the OP I suppose) - The Arteon doesn't fit the brief, it's too long

Nissan GT-R

Is it bad this completely skipped my mind? The me from 10 years ago would be disgusted in me. On the list.
