Throw me some suggestions - £4500

Hello sailor ;)
Heh :)

Went from a DC2R to an SLK320. Had the former for 11 years. As a daily, the SLK is a much better car. Quick enough to have fun in, especially with roof down goodness.

Pondered at the idea of getting an SLK32, but they're double the price.

RX8. Then when it blows up rebuild the engine. If it is a second car just for fun then I don't think you will get better for the money.

A rebuilt engine for 3k fully fitted. Even then at 7.5k I don't think you will find a better second sports car.

Well… apart from a 986 boxster, or a Z4 3L, or a 350Z. £7.5k has pretty rich pickings and not really worth discussing here.

BMW 130i

Will be high mileage but not really an issue if it has been maintained. Check thermostat and water pump have been replaced

None of them have a 9k rev limit, rotary engine or the chassis of a RX8 which is essentially a front mid engined sports car. 986 S would come close but the other two are more GT than sports.

If I had the choice of what you mentioned Vs a rebuilt bridge ported RX8 I would honestly take the RX8 every time as a "second" car.

You must be psychic, I was actually looking at them right now

For the R53 you want a facelift so has upgraded supercharger (just teflon coated) and an LSD as standard. Only real options to look for are cruise control, sunroof, h/k speakers, heated seats, diff interiors and then the Chrono pack. The only essential one of those would be the Chrono pack as it puts the speedo in the right place and gives you analogue temps and pressures gauges in the centre.

Loads about, some ragged but nuff low owner old lady cars too.

Mods are cheap too :D

Sent me down a brief 'could I make this work' rabbithole on these, then I noticed the tax - eek!

Why do you think they are so cheap. Tax and fuel costs are horrendous which puts people off but as a second car it is irrelevant. If you only tax it when you use it then that will help as well.

I honestly thought they were cheap as everyone is scared to run them as they're always breaking. I know that's not specifically true but the general view from most people is look great but don't want.

I love the look of them/performance and would happily have one, however I do 20 miles commuting a week with some weekends out and about so don't thnk they're ideal for my use case.

They are horrendous on tax and insurance iirc. Because a rotary engine does twice the amount of work versus a piston engine they are also insured as a 2.6 not a 1.3 iirc.

I'm paying more to insure a 2012 1.4 civic at the moment than I paid on a 2009 2.3 3MPS turbo before it, insurance never makes any damn sense. By the same logic, the RX8 would be even cheaper :D

Honda Civic Type R FN 2!

Few things I will need changing within the month, one being the exhaust! It's a Milltek decat with NO silencers ( I didn't know about the Decat until I got back home next day ). So I will need to fab a silencer in. It's just too damn loud! Neighbour rage inducing
