I seem to have talked myself into spending big on pc equipment again. Usually the builds dont last long and I sell them and go back to the Xbox series x but this time really looking to make a go of it. I need some advice though please. Specs I have picked are:

7950x3d when it comes out.
4090 Msi suprim x
32gb 6000mhz ddr5 ram not sure which one to go with?
Asus rog strix x670e white motherboard
Antec 1300w platinum psu
Lian li pc011 case
X2 1tb 980 pro Samsung
Deepcool ls720 cooler

Is they any mistakes or anything you would change here? I’m going high end as will be gaming at 1440p 180hz and this build I don’t want to change anything for at least 4/5 years. I don’t run my games at high textures more of competitive settings med/low so think the specs above should handle most games for a few years at that res and refresh rate

Thanks

Do you really need to spend £3k on a PC that you may or may not like?
Going to stick with it this time. On Xbox series x I do enjoy playing it but when I’m playing warzone at 120hz then go back to a game that’s say 30 or 60 it really annoys me they isn’t that option but with a pc and my game pass I can make the most of it. Only thing that annoys me with a pc is the messing around with drivers etc but suppose once I get used to that won’t be an issue

GeForce experience allows you to optimise settings to optimal but with the specs you want to build I'd just go max. I do it manually, though.

GeForce experience also give a notification regarding new driver releases. I tend to hold off a little as on rare occasion shizzle hits the fan.

Hmm I had a 12900ks build 8 months ago with a 3080 and I remember those drivers was a nightmare I was on windows 11 any game I tried to play just locked the game up proper annoying tbh

I use Win 10 Pro so, I can't comment on windows 11 being an issue, but in last 10 years being Nvidia based GPU's. I had one driver update issue where I sought a fix on their forums.

Is that PSU ATX 3.0 / PCI-E 5.0?

Bit more affordable alternative:

AMD Ryzen 7 7700 Eight Core 5.30GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail - £338.99
Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus WIFI (Socket AM5) DDR5 ATX Motherboard - £237.95
Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C40 6000MHz Dual Channel Kit - £169.99
Powercolor Radeon RX 7900 XTX HellHound 24GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £1,079.99

Corsair RM850x Shift ATX 3.0 80 Plus Gold Power Supply (CP-9020252-UK) - £174.94
Phanteks Eclipse P600S Silent Midi Tower Case - Black - £140.00

WD Black SN770 2TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS200T3X0E) - £159.94

Grand Total: £2,316.50 (includes delivery charge)

With Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE (£40).

Thanks for the suggestion on the above build I’ll look into it but did like the idea of the new x3d chips and the 4090 instead of a amd offering

How much did the suggested build save? If it is a lot, you might be better off buying something more modest like that, putting the money aside and then upgrading the CPU/GPU in 2-3 years time.

It doesn’t quite work out putting money to one side for 2-3 years now days lol. But yeah it did save quite abit tbh. I’ll look into it closer to the time the new x3d CPUs come out. I’ll probably end up with something like my first post.

Fair enough :D The 7950X3D is going to be way overkill though (if you're just gaming), I wouldn't buy one even if I had an unlimited budget, but I can't argue with the 4090 being a great card.

True on the flip side myself I should not be so fussy/mardy with the xbox going from 120 to 60 / 30 and just accept it and save myself the cash

Thanks for the info

First thing that stood out to me (purely because I've got an o11 evo) is the graphics card... you may need custom cables for it to fit, the 4090 is huge and a lot of them struggle to fit in the o11, especially if you're fitting directly into the motherboard. The vertical mount is an easy solution (rotated 90 degrees) should make it easier to fit but you'll still need to be careful of cable bends etc.

Might also be worth checking the dimensions of the 360mm rad (it looks a little longer than most) on the deepcool ls720 cooler actually fits in the case in the way that you intend to set it up.

You've also missed off the rest of your fans :)

I agree with some of the others here too, unless you're going into heavy encoding/rendering, something that can make use of 16c/32t you could easily drop down a tier or even 2 on the cpu... in fact until we know how well the scheduler changes work with the 'hybrid' nature of the multi ccd cpu's (only 1 of the 2 ccd's is 3D cache), I'd even be tempted to go 7800x3D due to only being a single 3D cache ccd or stick with the non x3D if you need anything more than 8 cores...

As to 4-5 years usage.... I wouldn't count on it if I'm being honest, you only have to look at forspoken to see how poor console conversions on pc are going these days, they're just not optimising things and it's essentially because PC users have 'performance to spare' comapred with consoles.

I've seen some daft build proposals on here but this takes the biscuit, a 3K build "to see if I can make a go of it this time"...or words to that effect...

Stickwith your XBOX mate, it will save you a fortune now and in the future as the cost of PC gaming has competely crazy.

Daft build proposals? Ok…. That daft but drops a reply in thanks mate :)

Tbh I was looking at what games like cod, overwatch 2, apex and battlefield 2042 run at spec wise to give me some type of guide on how hardware holds up over the years but suppose that’s the wrong way to look at it as it’s not a guarantee on how long the above build lasts. Like to think it would last awhile.

I’ll wait abit longer then for reviews on these new CPUs before rushing in. I only get to play my Xbox 2-3 times a week so not in a massive rush :)
