what would you upgrade to ?? I'm waiting for reviews on the 7800 line to see if it's worth it ..
i could drop 1k on a card but that would be crazy .. i play apex and strategy games (age 57) and just watch stuff .. ?
i've got a 32" 1440 screen and running a 5800 cpu
suggestions ?
 
If you are able to wait then that is a good move imho. The 7800 cards will be using the 2 GCD so may have similar performance issues as the 7900 cards. The 7700 chips will be a single GCD and I think these may be the best value gpus once released. Wait for independent reviews of course.

Sales for motherboards are down 20% and this is going to be a very tough year for PC sales. I do not think prices will drop before the full product stack from Nv and AMD has been released but once the 4070/4060ti/4060 and 7800/7700 cpus are all on the market then I would expect to see price drops across the board, especially in the higher priced gpus.

I had a vega64 (WC) on my 9700K playing with the same size screen (LG32GP850) and after an internal "GPU rotation" stuck a 3070 (WC) in there and it's been great (age 48) playing BF2042, Transport Fever 2, Doom, Forza 4/5, Fallout 4/76 etc.

3070 was a good step up (1.5 to 2 times faster) and you can probably pick one up cheapish.

I do however have another machine for ultimate eye candy.

I did consider a 68/900XT to keep an AMD card in the house but utlimately I'm glad to see the back of Adrenalin.

Just an anecdote I know but hope it helps.

As a starting point I would consider the RX 6750XT, about 50% faster then your Vega 64 and can be had for around £450 (maybe cheaper if you shop around).
