COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

Apparently my number is up...

NHS number that is. I am to get a packet of lateral flow tests through the post. If I subsequently test positive at any time, I am to submit for an unspecified covid treatment. Should I be concerned?

Can you imagine if they had gone through with this.
i was always looking for the covid silver lining............... and then 3 years later.............

i'll get my coat ;)

(only joking of course. there would have been hell to pay. that said they dont half p... me off, one of the local ones has decimated the padding on the lads trampoline sharpening its claws and i am reticent to get the large paddling pool for the summer because of cats clawing it......... but i digress./

Anyone know if covid causes bowel polyps, extreme high thyroid antibody levels or constantly enlarged lymph nodes in neck (large swelling to right side of neck)? Im been referred to head and neck dept and had a blood test this morning.

My thyroid antibodies were measuring 35 times than they should in Oct 2022.
no idea... it seems to do all sorts to different people so its possible, but either way at least you are getting it looked at so hopefully sorted soon.

Did you get boosted last year?

If anyone gets long covid you have my sympathies.

Dunno if it counts as long COVID but I've certainly not bounced back from it like I would a cold - more than 2 months on sense of smell is still not back to 100% - probably about 80% returned but overall still not as sensitive as it used to be, some smells can barely smell and a small number of smells are different to what they used to be. Energy/strength is mostly back to normal but get hit by fatigue out of nowhere still at least once a week - blood oxygen levels suddenly slump to as low as 93% but I only have to sit down for 5-10 minutes and they recover back to ~98% and it passes - fortunately getting less and less often and less severe as time goes on. Digestive system is still mildly unsettled though and I have to be careful with diet as some foods I was fine with before don't go down very well.

Fortunately overall doesn't have too much effect on me though.

I've no idea what I've just had, started as a tiny sore throat and headed for my lungs. 4 weeks later and 2 courses of monster antibiotics for a secondary infection, 2 trips to the hospital and chest x-rays it's just starting to clear. Hadn't run since end of January and started to think it was more serious, tests for flu, RSV and COVID all negative and x-ray was completely clear. I've been ruined

The files are anti lockdown and question the validity of some of the restrictions / mask use etc so wouldn't go down well in here..

As much as it pains me to agree with you Nick... It does feel very one sided here. I've always been on the fence about all of this and always been anti lockdown, but I've backed down my stance as I know some people feel more worried and neurotic about stuff like this and they're perfectly entitled to have those beliefs.

It's a shame it turns so antagonistic when an alternative point of view is aired.

To me it's no surprise there was a lot of distraction and coercion going on. The gov and the media/press all have a lot to answer for in my opinion. Corruption, manipulation, lies and misinformation. Look how messed up society is following lockdowns and educational issues of the young.

Anyway no point in rehashing the past. What's done is done. Let's hope there will be less nefarious behaviours in the future.

Hold up. What this lockdown file thing you are talking about?

There's a huge exposé about the misadventures of the government and media on the narrative and actions taken by those in power.

Increasing body of evidence about masks, lockdown stratégies, closing schools, vaccine safety etc....

Basically they ****** everything up.

I will defend the government or leaders to a certain degree. They had to be seen to do something and I wouldn't want to have been in that position. But it's turning out to be a whole steaming pile of somewhat embarrassing excrement.

However at the time I guess they didn't know better. But the skeptics were ousted as mad people rather than allowing a more wide angle lens on the situation.

I came here to read ocuk reactions on this and am surprised it's being discussed so little, but, then no one seems open minded anyway so probably a non starter.

For me personally it was the way in which some anti lockdown posts were worded in the past which got on my nerves.

They were worded as if those that agreed with the lockdowns were some authoritarian worshipping cult.

It was a virus we knew nothing about, we didn't know how badly it would affect our health, how it spread, or it's long term effects.

The majority anti lockdown posters didn't seem to comprehend that there were people who might be at risk and somewhat wary about some unknown virus circulating at what seemed to be a phenomenally quick pace which seemed to send a lot of those who were infected in to hospital/ICU.

In my view the lockdowns kept the peaks of people entering hospital to a somewhat manageable level. I think things would have been catastrophic for our health service if we hadn't have restricted movement and mixing in the early days when we knew very little about the virus and had no real treatments either.
