Hi all,

Looking to upgrade my current rig with a bit of refresh. Right now I have:

Corsair RM750 Gold PSU
MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk mobo
AMD Ryzen 3600 with Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO air cooling
16GB (2x8GB) Corsair DDR4 Vengeance RGB PRO Black, PC4-28800 (3600), Non-ECC Unbuff, CAS 18-22-22-42
GTX 1080Ti (on loan from a friend) / 2060 Super Aero (single fan, small model)
Crucial P1 M.2, 1TB drive (used for OS and everything).
LG 27" 4K monitor

I'm looking at spending around £600. Depending on what I can find on member's market and fleaBay etc, I'm thinking of adding/upgrading to:

Ryzen 5800X, and potentially move to an AIO cooler
Double the same RAM up to 32GB
3070/3070Ti if I can, or an AMD equivalent
Add a 1TB SSD for further games library

Does that seem suitable? Any alternative suggestions etc? I'm not playing the latest games on the highest settings etc, but the recent addition of a 4K monitor means I need a bit more grunt in the graphics department. Lastly, will 750W PSU still be enough with my expected spec, or will I need to be looking at a bigger PSU too?

Thanks!

EDIT: Added mobo.

If you can stretch, I would say that if gaming then the 5800X3D is hell of a bargain right now. (The 3D version of the 5800X with the additional cache, not the plain 5800X)

Thanks for all your inputs! Definitely worth skewing the purchases towards a beefier GPU then, then maybe piecemeal the other bits afterwards.

It's used solely for gaming so no rendering or encoding considerations whatsoever.

Is 10Gb VRAM on the 3080 enough for 4K?

I'll up the budget a little bit (pending how much MPB actually give me for my camera gear when I send it off), so I'll go 6800XT, bump up to a 5700X with AIO.

For going 16 to 32GB RAM, is it fine to go to 4x8GB as long as I match the RAM exactly?

When the 7800x3d releases you may find some 5800x3ds pop up in the MM.

I’d wait for that for the cpu and go for a gpu upgrade to cover right now

just buy a 32gb kit not all AMD cpu's like 4 sticks.. you can sell the one you have and the upgrade would be about £20

3070/3070Ti if I can, or an AMD equivalent
Not for 4K i have just sold a 3070ti at 1440 high setting i got around 100FPS put that to 4k id expect 60fps thats ok for now next year you will be shopping again

Add a 1TB SSD for further games library
just go sata(SSD) you can get 2tb for £70

Would shoving in a 5800X3D with a 6800XT not start pushing me over PSU limits? (750W Gold)

No, I'm running a the rig in my sig on a 750w. Never once had an issue.
Also for gaming dont bother with 32gb, I went from 16gb to 32gb last year and saw exactly no difference whatsoever in any game so totally wasted my money. At least not perceivably anyway, not bothered with benchmarks to see if I'm getting 0.1% more FPS.

I game at 1440p fyi.
