Good afternoon,

I was hoping to get some advice from better qualified, experienced or both in the case of my dad's car. He purchased a brand new Golf VW in 2015 from Listers Stratford-upon-Avon, every since the start he's experienced troubles with the car such as the wipers not working correctly and the rear window not defrosting as it should. Each and everytime the staff of Listers Stratford-upon-Avon VW have disputed it and after much deliberation and hardship decided to resolve it.

Recently my father has noticed that on the back panel of his car there is rust coming up, he's been advised by a number of people to go and ask the VW dealership staff to investigate as it is specified in the T&C's. Please find these below:

Body protection warranty

All current Volkswagen vehicles are fully protected during manufacture against through corrosion for 12 years from the date of first registration.
The only preconditions are:

The defect must be reported to a member of the Volkswagen Authorised Repairer network as soon as it is discovered and within the warranty period.

The perforation must not have been caused originally by damage, neglect, insufficient care or maintenance or by external corrosion (rusting).

A member of the Volkswagen Authorised Repairer network must be advised about any rusting as soon as it is found.

All body repairs will be carried out promptly in accordance with the manufacturer's specification and procedures, using only approved parts and materials, so the original level of anti-corrosion protection is maintained.

However, the gentleman in charge of the services has fobbed us off very quickly, saying that only the non-bolted panels are included in the Body protection warranty. This happened in less than 2 min, not giving us any time of day. Initially, assuming we've purchased the car elsewhere privately, not even caring to know this is our 3'rd brand new car purchased from this dealership. Not my initiative as I would never in a thousand years use them after seeing how they treat their customers. I am very angry of how belittled I felt during this interaction.

I would appreciate it immensely if anyone could direct me on how to approach this and if there is any point to take this further.

Thank you,

George

Go over their head and email people higher up complaining that it is not acceptable and a serious defect.

Some head of UK operations of something like that.

Thank you, I have just sent a complaint to the dealership. I will await a reply and the next person to e-mail will be as per your suggestion!

Can't see anything in that text that says only certain components are affected. Is there more text?

Otherwise I'd be going above their head and verbal on social media.

No other text that I can find relating to Body protection warranty. I will go sometime this week back to the dealership and ask again, following with asking for this to be put down in writing so that I can actually quote something. As I understand it, it's frowned upon to record without the other person's agreement.

may be wrong but on first look has the window been out? looks like coming unbonded in the corner and up the side? maybe they caught the paint?.
i may be wrong its just you can see a lighter grey line in the black on the glass almost like a scratch that has been retouched on the inside.

yes - the rubber seals do deteriorate too, and if you've let any dirt accumulate in rain gutters can get standing water & with freeze/thaw gets inside and corrode
- seen that on an estates tailgate, toothbrushes are good for cleaning

you don't get a better view of the extent/source of the problem with boot open , is seal displaced/squashed, any paint scratches.
if it had been serviced by them - do/did they perform a regular corrosion inspection.

Yup, email to dealer principal / head of listers expressing your extreme disappointment to have been so poorly treated by this dealership.

Dont get angry or annoyed yet, and convey how you have tried to be accommodating in getting the issue resolved fairly and with minimal fuss, but are being let down repeatedly.

Thanks all for the advice.

Luckily my father is good at keeping documentation. I'll check for the service history and the paperwork of who's done the window replacement and bring that up in my email to the dealership before doing any public review of the place.
Frankly, he always preferred buying new cars to avoid these issues.

I'm quite certain my dad said they had done that. I'll dig up the paperwork tomorrow.
more than likley they caught the paint while cutting out old glass and didnt prime it correctly. always masked the areas off as far below as possible when cutting out and if i ever or one of my lads ever caught the paint i always told the bodyshop. better to pay to rectify than have it come back years later.
