Forza Horizon 5 - Poor Steam Performance - 4090 !

Hi All,
I have both the Microsoft Store version, and the Steam version (so i can also play on steamdeck) of Forza Horizon 5.

I have a Ryzen 5800x CPU and a new RTX4090 and and get between 120-160 FPS with the Microsoft version. running at 4k, ultra/extreme settings.

However - i cannot get the Steam version to run above 80-90 FPS. This is even if i bump down the resolution to 1440p !

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, reset but nothing i try can get me over this limit - the Nvidia control panel settings are the same for both versions - i'm banging my head against a wall !

Has anyone else noticed this ? I have plenty of other Steam games than run fine with my setup so either

1) The Steam version of FH5 is somehow not optimised
2) I have something else conflicting with Steam - i have turned off the overlay BTW as i know this can cause performance issues in some games.

Anyone - any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I can tell you that you have an issue because I only have the steam version and a 4080 and at 1440p I get loads more than that @1440p
how to fix though I cant help as it dosen't make much sense

Hi, Steam will use the drive you have specified. Is the storage drive a slower one than the other one Forza is on?

I have four drives. For best performance, I use C drive or F, the NVME ones.

Perhaps you are hitting a data load bottleneck?

Otherwise it may be some sort of setting issue as you say. Maybe uninstall drivers with a deep clean tool or a custom reinstall with wipe the old drivers.

Its on the same drive as the windows version but thanks for the reply
Tbh - when DLSS 3 support is added on 28th the problem will, hopefully, go away!

If you have a steam version and a microsoft store/xbox app version both installed it can cause some conflicts resulting in lower performance.
Digital Foundry noticed this when testing the Evil Within 1 update.

Why would you have two versions in the first place and why wouldn't you just play the faster MS Store version?

I get the windows version with my gamepass subscription but also wanted to play whilst away on my steamdeck, hence the 2 versions. I was hoping save progress would sync across the 2 versions but sadly doesn’t

You can stream the games with gamepass though?
