I am contemplating replacing my 530D with an S Class of a similar age. I am not an expert at all on the S Class so have begun downloading brochures, reading road tests etc and my budget is around £50K for a car. I am not fussed on engine but think the 350D and 500 are the sweet spots (from my reading) and want long wheel base (the reason for changing) and good spec.

My recent road trip to Normandy made me think "this could be EPIC in an S Class" as the smallest passenger was 6.5" and the tallest 6'7" and our plan is more road trips to see stuff. I went to have a nose at some at the weekend, together with A8's (nice in an Audi way, but not in the same league from style and substance) and the 7 series (erm.....nah) so S Class is the place me thinks.

So, what should I look for. Fact me up!

A MB warranty is a must, given the tech/suspension etc, but guessing you know that. Most LWB will be ex chauffeur cars so in good condition. Seems to be a decent amount to choose from on AT at the moment. Few S63L in that price range too....

Down side to Mercs, is Merc dealers. I think you are aware of this. If you don’t mind shambolic dealers, then I’d also consider a Quattroporte :D

The S Class is the right car I think, now I need to find the right version for the right money.

Dealers are poor no question, but that is often the case across many brands these days sadly.

Later 500 changed to a straight 6 i think.

The night vision is gangster how it highlights things, not sure if you'd want the rear luxury pack, panoramic roof is beneficial enough for rear passengers.

I think that's included in the rear luxury pack.

edit: actually maybe not as this one says it has the rear luxury lounge but it doesn't have the full centre console/armrest thing, just the fold down one. Is it just the new model which has it?
